SDCC 2012: Fringe – Press Room

by Gema Luna, Assistant Editor

The end is near, and everybody knows it’s coming… but how EXACTLY it will end is something that can only be answered by a handful of people. At the dawn of the Fifth and Final Season of Fringe, the cast and crew are ready for what’s to come to them and to their characters. Fringe is ready for its end. Here are a few highlights from the press room at Comic-Con 2012:

  • The atmosphere in the room was that of relief for the cast and for Executive Producer J.H. Wyman, because for the first time since the pilot, they have complete control of the show in their hands. There is no one to look up the numbers of last Fridays viewers; there is no one they would be held accountable except to themselves and their fans.
  • Anna Torv (Olivia Dunham), said that there was a difference between closure and resolution and that she wishes that her character gets resolution.
  • John Noble (Dr. Walter Bishop) really hopes that Walter’s story gets resolve, while Joshua Jackson hopes the story is completely told.
  • Wyman said that all the characters will have a finale, that he desires that the audience thinks, after the show is over, “I know how they (the characters) are doing”. He also said that even though a lot of things stayed unanswered, everything happened for a purpose. “I am looking at these 13 episodes as a saga” Wyman said. He also added that Peter (Jackson), Walter (Noble) and Olivia (Torv) are in an odyssey that the fans will watch it play out in every episode and feel with them as these characters approach their journey’s end.

Fringe – The Final Season starts on September 28 on FOX.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
