True Blood at SDCC

The arrival of the "True Blood" cast to Ballroom 20 was met with loud applause and many fangirl screams, especially thanks to the fan favorite actor Alexander Skasgard being there. Also in attendance was Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Rutina Wesley, Michelle Forbes, Nelsan Ellis, Sam Trammell, Deborah Ann Woll, Alan Ball, and the writer of the original series Charlaine Harris. It was great to see such a full panel, but it also meant that not every actor could be as fully addressed as we'd like. There was so much to ask and very little time to do it in!

Ball started out the panel announcing that they were now making a Tru Blood drink. It will be a tangy orange soda placed in a bottle with a label just like on the show itself. It has its own website at www.trubeverage.com if you'd like to see about ordering the drink for any True Blood parties with friends. Charlaine Harris also declared that she will be writing three more Southern Vampire novels. This means that more stories and seasons will be available to Alan Ball if the show continues in its high ratings and critical acclaim.

This season so far the show has focused on Sookie's assistance in Dallas, where Eric's maker has been kidnapped. It's also developed the relationship between Maryann and Tara, plus now we know that Maryann is the devilish creature with the long claws that struck Sookie a few weeks ago. Lafayette is experiencing PTSD after being kidnapped by Eric and tortured, Tara and Eggs have consummated their relationship, and it looks like Eric may finally be pushing his attraction to Sookie. At the panel we were given a look at the rest of season two, and boy does it look exciting/scary! A war between the humans and vampires may be coming in Dallas, and what about Jason Stackhouse? When faced with the kidnapping of his own sister, will he take her side or the Fellowship of the Sun? In the midst of this drama can Sookie and Bill keep their relationship stable, or does Eric really have a chance with the outspoken heroine?

There were a few cute moments, with Paquin coyly agreeing with real life beau Moyer that the vampire teeth can be sharp, and Deborah Ann Woll saying Jessica will get in as much trouble as they let her. Harris declared that she does not let the show influence her books, and she does seem at peace with the many changes Ball has put the show through. They deviate greatly from the books, and her support on the panel was absolute. Ball promises werewolves next season and a look at the Mississippi vampires, but that there will be no Bubba ever, and absolutely no half-vampire babies (a la Twilight).

True Blood was at the con in full force with a popular panel, several different wild parties every night, autograph signings, and a few actors showing up at the SyFy party on Saturday night. It looks like they hit the comic con in style, and there's nothing better than seeing a show embrace their fanbase with such enthusiasm!

"Earth-1 Chelsea" lives in Maine where she teaches her father how to play golf and avoid deer ticks. She is too good a writer to play in our sandbox much anymore. *tear*
