Movie Review: Abigail

By G. E. Uke, Reporter I’m not normally the sort of guy who goes out to watch horror movies. Faced with cinematic anxiety, impending jump scares, or embarrassment of any sort my normal response is to hide my face in…

DVD Review: Fragile: A Ghost Story

I think labeling this as a horror film is really doing it a disservice. It’s more of a psychological drama, really [as I’m noticing tends to be the theme among Spanish horror films (the writer/director and most of the production staff are Spanish) – Korean and Japanese horror films are known for their hair-raising, blood-chilling ghost stories, and Spanish horror films tend to be more about the characters – about the people and the emotion and the story to be told by the characters, superimposed over some moments of terror]. And at that, it excels.

Blu-ray Review: 6 Souls

It might not have been quite what I signed up for, but it was still a pretty good ride by the time I’d reached the end. The plot doesn’t smash you upside the head with the paranormal the way other films in the genre sometimes do. In fact, the paranormal elements really don’t come into full play until almost three quarters of the way through the movie. I’d venture into saying that up until that point, Moore’s character doesn’t even believe them to be occurring (and not in the way some horror films fall prey to, with her disbelieving things that are right in front of her).

Movie Review: The Hangover Part III

The Hangover (2009) introduced us to one of the funniest buddy comedy casts ever. The Wolfpack returns in The Hangover Part III, but this time the formula that was repeated in Part II and earned the franchise so much critical derision is abandoned in favor of a tale that spins off of the events in the previous movies but does not simply ape them.

Movie Review: Iron Man 3

The Invincible Iron Man returns to the big screen for his latest solo adventure in Iron Man 3. After the events of Marvel’s The Avengers, our armored hero hasn’t quite been the same. It’s hard to blame Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr – The Avengers) for being a little off after teaming up with a Norse God, a monster, a living legend, and a couple of spies to fight off an alien invasion. Stark better get his act together quickly, because a new terrorist threat has emerged, and it will soon be up to Iron Man to save the day! Taking cues from the fan-favorite “Extremis” storyline, Iron Man 3 is the perfect way to get “Phase Two” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe into motion!

Blu-ray Review: Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie

If you’re a fan of Cheech and Chong this is a must have for your collection.  If you’re a fan of watching flicks through what Kev Smith calls the green prism: we're sure you’ll find Cheech and Chong's Animated Movie a fat sack of laughs! Good fun, good animation, and some good laughs despite the mildly dated material.

Movie Review: Jurassic Park 3-D

While 3-D still sometimes seems like a gimmick, Jurassic Park 3-D is actually made better because of it.  Rather than get a standard 3-D update where the special effects get the treatment, the entire film was re-done with it.  It looks fantastic.  The depth of field created by the 3-D makes the dinosaur encounters much more terrifying.

Movie Review: The Croods

by Kevin Gaussoin, Editor-in-Chief A prehistoric world is undergoing cataclysmic change, and the titular family in The Croods must adapt and move on or perish. The Crood family is stuck in a rut, or more accurately, a cave. Classic caveman…

Blu-ray Review: Wreck-It Ralph

by Kevin Gaussoin and Karissa Barrows, Editors Like their Toy Story trilogy before it, Pixar’s Wreck-It Ralph exists in a world where once humans look away, our toys have lives of their own. This time instead of classic toys, we…

Movie Review: Looper

by Kevin Gaussoin, Editor-in-Chief Time travel is a tricky thing. It behaves differently in different universes, so when a story that takes place in a new one pops up, we as the nerds of geek pop culture are eager to…

Movie Review: Total Recall

by Brian Burgoyne, Reporter Before I saw Total Recall, I thought that all remakes were just overdone, over-hyped movies bent not on telling a story but on making money for the studios. After watching the movie, my opinion has not changed….

Movie Review: The Bourne Legacy

by Kendrick Gaussoin, Junior Editor After 10 years, it may be that the original Bourne Trilogy was only a prequel. We were told The Bourne Ultimatum was the end, but instead it led us to this awesome, sick, fight-filled chase movie. Jason Bourne ended…
