DVD Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

by Kroze Kresky, Media Editor

Captain Jack Sparrow has become one of the most iconic characters in film of this decade (even showing up on Saturday Night Live being portrayed by Michael Bolton in a song that shares the same name). There is no denying the hold Jack Sparrow has over audiences. Disney Pictures knows this as well and that’s why they brought ol’ Captain Jack back for yet another outing despite most of the original production crew being gone. Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides comes home to DVD to continue the multi-million Pirates movie franchise! The question is: does it hold up to its predecessors’ legacy?

DVD Review: Thor & Loki – Blood Brothers

by Josh Powell, Editor-at-Large

A pleasant surprise:  Released on DVD this month by Shout! Factory, in conjunction with Marvel Knights Animation, comes Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers – a “motion comic” based on the 2004 MK limited series of the same name.

DVD Review: Captain America: The Re-Released 1992 Edition

by Matt Sernaker, Senior Editor

When I was a kid, there were a couple of movies that I could watch countlessly – and, finally, one of these movies is available to own on DVD: Captain America. Now, you might be confused about the DVD release, since Captain America is currently in theaters. The movie that I am referring to was originally planned to be a Theatrically Released Live Action Captain America movie (slated to be in theaters in 1990), but instead, ended up being a Direct-To-Video release in 1992. Maybe you have heard of it, or maybe you haven’t…Either way, I cannot begin to say how excited I was to hear about this release (I burnt out two copies of the film on VHS while growing up). While it might not be remembered as t he greatest Marvel adaptation ever, I think Captain America: The Re-Released 1992 Edition stands on its own as being a fun (albeit campier) take on the legacy of our hero in the red, white, and blue.

DVD Review: After Dark Originals Scream of the Banshee

by Karl Madsen, Media Editor, Horror

One of the sure fire ways to find a monster or demon, or to release a curse is to work for a museum, or a major educational institution. More importantly, you have to be a researcher at a school or museum – anyplace that has lots of creepy old stuff, that’s not your mother-in-law. Scream of the Banshee takes place in just that type of setting.

DVD Review: Your Highness

by Chris Learned Kane and Kimberly Learned Kane, Reviewers I was excited to see Your Highness. On paper, the movie justifies my excitation: it stars James Franco, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel. The film boasts director David Gordon…

DVD Review: YellowBrickRoad

Follow the Yellow Brick Road, oh my.

by Karl Madsen, Media Editor, Horror

Urban legend and the chance to prove, disprove, or to simply solve the mystery, is the stuff that horror films are made of. Joining the ranks of Event Horizon, Blair Witch Project, The Cave, The Legend of Hell House, and any number of ‘find out what happened’ flicks is YellowBrickRoad.

DVD Review: [REC] 2

by Karl Madsen, Media Editor, Horror

What are some of movie watchers biggest gripes? How about foreign movies with completely unknown actors? Most viewers are really irritated by subtitles, especially in an action movie. And of course there’s the questionable sequel to a flick that seems to have a plausible outcome at the conclusion of the first movie. Well [REC] 2 fits these descriptions, and breaks the mold as well.
