Comic Book Review: Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees (TPB)

Among our favorite superheroes and sci-fi legends, a lot of our favorite comics have at one time or another taken a dark and gritty turn. While we’ve seen darker versions of formerly pretty benign things like Chuck E Cheese and Winnie the Pooh in recent years, we never thought we’d see a dark and gritty version of Richard Scarry’s BusyTown turned up to eleven, but here we are: Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. An alternate universe BusyTown where Ms Honey, the schoolteacher bear, is here Samantha Strong, brown bear and the town’s friendly hardware store owner who is a serial killer on the side.

Movie Review: The Hangover Part III

The Hangover (2009) introduced us to one of the funniest buddy comedy casts ever. The Wolfpack returns in The Hangover Part III, but this time the formula that was repeated in Part II and earned the franchise so much critical derision is abandoned in favor of a tale that spins off of the events in the previous movies but does not simply ape them.

Blu-ray Review: Pawn

A night shift cop on a routine visit to his favorite diner interrupts a robbery in progress.  And that’s nearly all we can say without giving away key pieces of Pawn, a compelling straight to Blu-ray crime flick from first time director, David A Armstrong.  Pawn contains some attractive elements:  the story is told in anachronic flashback, the setup is deliciously intriguing (what team of professional thieves robs a nearly empty diner at 11:30pm?) and the cast is top shelf.
