Blu-ray Review: Fright Night (2011)
“He’s not lovesick, or misunderstood, he’s the @#$%ing shark from ‘Jaws’!” – Evil Ed
by Chris Kane, Reviewer and Karl Madsen, Horror Editor
We have all had neighbors move into the house next door, and most have acted strangely at first. Especially when they do most of their business at night, and a wave of criminal activity begins at the same time. Isn’t that what happens when a vampire moves in next door? How was I supposed to know that he really was a night watchman, and that there is always crime in a big city. But I digress, and the restraining order says I can’t say any more.
The new Fright Night is a retelling of a story that resonated with pre- and post pubescent Gen Xers. Indeed Fright Night is an important part of our myth pool, our tales which capered and cavorted in our minds long after we had extinguished the safety of our bedroom light. In many ways this retelling is a re presentation to the next generation: the cinematic equivalent of handing down the tale of razor-blade-laced Halloween treats, or Bloody Mary (Bloody Mary, Bloody Ma—). Fright Night 2011 also happens to be a metric shit-ton of celluloid fun, filled with nerve torquing suspense, blow-your-hair-back action sequences, and a cast that propels Fright Night shrieking into the present. Bloody good fun!
Blu-ray Review: Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series (and Giveaway Contest – Ends 12/7)
by Kroze Kresky, Media Editor
When Stephen Moffat took the Doctor Who reigns from Russel T. Davies, people wondered if he could possibly keep up the feeling of wonder and excitement that RTD was able to inject into Doctor Who during his 5 year run on the series. Moffat, who is no stranger to blowing people’s minds over and over again, has more than proven himself again, showing that Series 5 was not just a fluke occurrence. Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series on Blu-ray gives us everything we have wanted and much much MORE!
Blu-ray Review: Super 8
Super 8, the newest film from the mind of LOST creator J.J. Abrams and Sci-Fi mastermind Steven Spielberg, is now available for you to own in a special Blu-ray/DVD combo pack!
So, what is Super 8 and why do you need to watch it? Imagine E.T. The Extraterrestrial and Cloverfield, mash them together with a dash or two of awesome special effects. This movie is a solid win for Paramount Studios and Amblin Entertainment (who also made E.T.), as it allowed audiences to experience a great take on the science fiction genre, with the pleasant addition of a genuine, feel good story and believable cast of characters from an 80’s movie.

Blu-ray Review: Stake Land
by Karl Madsen, Media Editor, Horror
Every once in a while you get a movie where the main antagonist isn’t the most dangerous. That’s the case with Stake Land, a vampire movie where the bloodsuckers are the obvious bad guys, but are by no means the most dangerous.
In Stake Land there has been an outbreak of vampirism, and humanity has been splintered into lone travelers and small communities. The communities operate on a barter system and rely on the travelers to bring in food, medicines, tools, and luxury items. And everyone waits for confirmation of the safe zone in the north, New Eden.
