Blu-ray Review: S. Darko
S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Somethings are better off being left alone…and the tale of Donnie Darko is definitely one of those things you shouldn't mess with unless you really have a good grasp on the film, the characters, and why the story was such a success in the first place. When it was announced that there would be a Direct to Dvd sequel to the cult classic film Donnie Darko I was pretty surprised. It is one of those films that really doesn't have more to tell (especially when the title character doesn't survive the film). With most movies that are released in this fashion you know going into it that it might not be the greatest or maybe just not live up to expectations. You must have a totally open mind when watching a film like this. This film was supposed to be a stand alone story within the world of Donnie Darko.
Blu-ray Review: The Wrestler
As perfect as Mickey Rourke was as Marv in Sin City, his portrayal of Robin "Randy 'The Ram' Robinson" Ramzinski was just as ideal, yet this time placed in a world so real you can feel every blow that lands on Randy's steroid-addled achingly too-old-for-this-$#!% body.

Blu-ray Review: Sin City Recut – Extended – Unrated
"She smells like angels ought to smell." -Marv
2005 was a crazy year for me. I mean, I didn't wake up next to any dead strippers like Marv from Sin City, but life got in the way of me seeing Sin City in the cinema. While I had some of the original Dark Horse Presents issues chronicling Sin City's initial appearances, and had bought a couple of the trade paperbacks, it wasn't until Christmas of 2005 that I was able to see the film translation on DVD. Needless to say I was blown away at this most true comic book movie of all time. It's stark black and whites broken only occasionally by accent colors or the full color seen in Kadie's bar showed what a comic noir film could be.
Blu-ray Review: The Day The Earth Stood Still 3-Disc Special Edition
"Klatuu Barada Nikto"
More of a "re-imagining" than a remake of the original 1951 film of the same name, The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) stars Keanu Reeves (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Matrix 1-3, Constantine) as the enigmatic space alien in a cloned human body Klatuu. While in the '51 film, Klatuu comes first to educate, then ultimately threaten the humans of earth against the dangers of nuclear weapons, in the 2008 version, Al Gore Klatuu instead warns against the effects of global pollution, warning that the humans of earth will be exterminated before the council of alien races that he represents allows the humans of Earth to push Earth's global climate past the tipping point toward certain doom for the planet.
Blu-ray Review: Never Say Never Again
"I need a urine sample. If you could fill this beaker for me?"
"From here?"
Back in the early 1980s someone made a bold move. Was there was a loophole in the movie rights for Bond films? It turned out that there was in fact a series of events that would allow a company other than Eon to create a film based on James Bond, but that's the thing: Just because you can, should you? Dare you? In 1983 Kevin McClory's Never Say Never Again remake of the Eon Bond film Thunderball went head to head against Eon's latest Bond film: Octopussy. In the end, Roger Moore's Bond won out in ticket sales and rentals, but it proved that there was indeed room for both to be blockbusters.
Blu-ray Review: Quantum of Solace
The 22nd Bond film, Quantum of Solace picks up almost immediately after Casino Royale leaves off. Quantum hits the ground running, opening with a spectacular car chase that sets the non-stop action tempo of the film. Driven by grief and anger, 007 dives recklessly into a quest to topple the mysterious Quantum organization responsible for blackmailing Vespar into betraying him. An assassination attempt against M from inside MI-5 itself pushes Bond further towards the edge, causing even M to question his motivations.

Blu-ray Review: Bolt
How do you know it's time to finally break time and make the switch to Blu-ray? When Disney's latest offering is released on Blu-ray before it's available on DVD*. It's like Disney's knocking on your thick skull and saying "Hello, are you in there? This is the future of technology calling. Nineteen ninety-six called and it wants it's DVDs back. You really need to give it up and just start watching movies and TV in HD with the rest of the world. Hello? Can you say 1080p and English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio?" But being as though this is Disney we're talking about, they're nicer than that and *they even include the DVD version along with the 3-disc Blu-ray edition cause they know that life, like technology upgrades, is not always so simple.
