NYCC09: Mattel’s DC Figures
Mattel’s DC Related Offerings look awesome. The DC Universe CRISIS figures look great and there is a wide variety of figures available ranging from Gotham City SWAT Officers to Thanagarian Warriors to many, many ,many DC characters.
They are also still producing plenty of Justice League Unlimited figures too. I am especially liking additions like Amanda Waller and General Eiling and a new Batman taken directly from one of my favorite episodes when Batman busts in on the two at the secret Project Cadmus base.
I was less interested in the figures based upon the Dark Knight film. Not much new and there were some real stretched that just looked silly.

Batman Brave & The Bold Panel
The panel was fun and had a decent turnout of about 75-100 people. The creative team discussed the style of the show and said they were influenced by the late 50s and early 60s style and that when they accepted the project they wanted to make sure it was different then earlier incarnations of the character. The crowd generally seemed to like the tongue in cheek humor of the show and Phil Morris who will be voicing Jonah Hex in an upcoming episode was sporting an Alex Ross Martian Manhunter shirt and was enthusiastic about his involvement in the series and in DC Animation in general.

The King of “actin’ Skrully” is at it again! Not satisfied to ruin just the regular 616 Marvel Universe, he’s now set his devil magic on Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. Stan help us all.

NYCC 09: Cup O’ Joe Panel
The Cup O’ Joe panel focused primarily on Ultimatum and the cancellation of it’s books. It had been fairly well known that Ultimate X-men and Ultimate Fantastic Four were getting canceled but shocking was the news that the whole line was being canceled. Brian Michael Bendis acted out fake shock about Ultimate Spider-man’s fate and then they revealed the plan was to relaunch Ultimate Comics. A new line that will have 4 titles. Only a new Ultimate Spider-man and a new Ultimates was confirmed which was referred to twice as Ultimate Avengers. It was unclear if that was intentional or not.
DVD Review: You’re A Good Sport, Charlie Brown
When you think of sports, certain names come to mind. When you think of baseball it’s Babe Ruth. For football, it’s Joe Namath. With basketball, let’s say Dr. J. In skateboarding it’s Tony Hawk. But when you think of motocross you don’t think of Charlie Brown. With the restored deluxe edition of You’re A Good Sport, Charlie Brown the sport of motocross is introduced to the viewers of the Charlie Brown specials mundanely as Peppermint Patty brings it to the gang. Throughout we see how Charlie’s usual run of luck plays out. But the final outcome of the special remains an old adage that I will leave for you to figure out.

First up is an offering from Spain, El Rey de la Montana or King of the Hill. Quinn is on his way to try to win back his ex-girlfriend, but has a brief rendezvous with Bea, a ner-do well, who steals his wallet during their brief interlude. Seeing her car take a side road, Quinn follows. On this lonely, uninhabited part of the countryside, Quinn and Bea become prey, like big game animals. Bea and Quinn are tracked, herded, and hunted.

What happens when professional wrestlers enter the acting arena? Stone Cold has done one fairly well; John Cena has two under his belt. Dwayne “The Rock“ Johnson has such a lucrative career acting he doesn‘t wrestle any more. And Hulk Hogan, well he‘s The Hulkster. Next on the list of possible future action stars, at least if Vince McMahon has his way, is Ken “Mr. Kennedy” Anderson.

DVD Review: Mystery Science Theater 3000 : Volume XIV
I have always watched bad movies. They are just one of those odd joys that will always exist as long as there are movies. Some are cheaply made, some are poorly written, and some just come together to be crap. But throw in a good riffing throughout and you have an even greater joy, Mystery Science Theater 3000. I grew up watching MST3k, and loved every episode. These guys, either Joel or Mike and their robot friends Crow and Tom Servo would sit through the world’s worst movies and make fun of them. This was a weekly joy for me, and my friends. It was absolutely great.

Paramount brings you another classic movie in their “I Love the 80’s” on DVD series.
Val Kilmer has had a few ups and down over his 25 year acting career. He has turned in some amazing performances such as Jim Morrison in “The Doors”, and Doc Holiday in “Tombstone”. He’s also starred in some major crapfests (I’m looking at you “Mindhunters”!). Before all of this, he kicked off his Hollywood career with a pair of brilliant comedies, the most well known of the two being “Real Genius”. The other being the 1984 WWII spy flick spoof Top Secret!.
