Blu-ray Review: Coraline

Imagine for a moment that you have discovered a door to another reality.  This world would be extremely close to the every day living that you experience right now, except for one small difference.  Every aspect of the world around you has improved considerably.  Would you choose to stay in this pleasant replication of your known reality, or will you go home and tough it out despite the imperfections?  This is the decision that Coraline Jones has to make in Coraline, now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Blu-ray Review: Green Lantern- First Flight

"In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern's light!"

The Green Lantern Corps, a galaxy wide police squad dedicated to keeping the galaxy safe unbeknownst to us puny mortal earthlings. Enter Hal Jordan, test fighter pilot on earth who becomes chosen when a fallen member of the GLC crashes to earth and needs to find someone to inherit his ring that gives him power to fight evil. The origin story for Green Lantern has been told and redone many many times over throughout the years in the various different mediums and this new movie, Green Lantern: First Flight, is no different.

Book Review: The Lord of the Sands of Time

We go from the future and the past, one time stream to another, but the real issue is the continuation of humanity. Issui Ogawa has done a lovely job of addressing the ultimate destruction of humanity and the knowledge that the only way to stop it is by going back in time to change time. There is also the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to do the job for you.

SDCC Fringe Panel

Fringe had quite a fanbase at San Diego Comic Con this year, because not only was the line very long and the room completely full, but the fans were very much a part of the panel itself. The Fringe crew thought it would be fun to have a trivia game running, so that for every question a fan asked them, they asked a question of the audience. They seemed remarkably surprised every time a very enthusiastic fan screamed out the answer, faster than they had time to recognize it! The questions got progressively more difficult and detailed, yet the fans came through every time. That speaks more to the loyalty of their viewers than anything else at the panel, and the Fringe cast seemed very pleased.

SDCC The Lost Panel

When we first arrived on Saturday, we thought there was no absolute way we'd get into the LOST panel. In the past few years people have camped out the night before, and we saw these unfortunate souls on the way home on Friday. However, upon coming up to Hall H, it was actually not nearly as long as we feared so we got in line. Everyone was very excited, as you can see.

Matt and Kroze had a very particular reason to be happy, as we found out later on in the panel.

Then we all took turns making ugly Jackfaces.

Interview and Movie Review for The Collector

Friday night was an event filled evening with a special screening of The Collector and preceded by an interview with Writer Patrick Melton, writer/director Marcus Dunstan, both involved with Feast and Saw IV, V VI, and the films star Josh Stewart.

I have to admit, as I did to them, that my agenda was to meet the men who put Henry Rollins in pink sweats (Feast). Patrick and Marcus admitted that this was actually a concession to the rating, as the script originally called for his pants to be torn off by the creatures and to be nude. Twice. They talked about his intensity and work ethic, how he showed up on time and prepared.

DVD Review: The Middleman: The Complete Series

I have been surrounded by comics all of my life. My grandfather was a cartoonist during World War II. My family went to Comic-Con number zero. This has been a part of our lives. We read the western comics, the sci-fi comics, but most of all the superhero comics. So when I found out that The Middleman would be a series on ABC Famiily, I jumped at the chance to watch it. It turned out to be the best new series when it premiered, and I watched every show. It was everything that I wanted a modern superhero show to be, funny, Smart, heroic. All with a sense of self, and that which came before it. This was the new hero show.
