DVD Review Global Metal

It’s loud. It’s rebellious. It’s obnoxious. Most authority figures don’t like it, and religious leaders believe it’s the moral ruination our youth. And it is the global phenomenon commonly known as heavy metal music. Global you say, how can that be with all the countries that are so restrictive? And so many different types of music styles. That’s what Sam Dunn thought too.

Sam Dunn, anthropologist and metal head, didn’t believe it either, so after his first documentary, Metal: A Headbangers Journey, elicited a global response he decided to film another documentary to investigate just how widespread this phenomenon is. So Sam, together with director Scot McFayden, head off on a multi-country jaunt to track down heavy metal music in the most un-metal places.

DVD Review: Super Capers

The Superhero genre parody Super Capers is now available on DVD.

After wannabe superhero Ed Gruberman (Lois and Clark's Justin Whalin) attempts to save a damsel in distress, he is sued by the mugger (played by Clint Howard). The judge decides to side with Gruberman but insists that he be trained by the Super Capers program for lacking superheroes.

He is driven to the Super Capers program by the infamous "Man-Bat" (played by Batman's Adam West) who now runs a taxi service using the Man-Batmobile. Once at the compound, Gruberman meets the rest of the team which includes: Sarge (Tommy Listner), Will Powers (Chuck's Ryan McPartlin), Felicia Freeze (Danielle Harris), and Puffer Boy (Ray Griggs). Can these struggling superheroes get it together in time to save the world?

DVD Review: Watchmen Director’s Cut 2-Disc Set

Watchmen: Director's Cut is now available on DVD!

Watchmen is a off the beaten path tale about a group of former costume crusaders who have split up after many years of serving together as comrades in arms and are now having to face each other again due to someone or something killing off one of their former members. It plays out much like a detective noir tale with superhero trappings along the edges. It is important for the viewer to understand going into the film that this is not your typical superhero film as Watchmen is something completely different. This is an extremely graphic story and they don't pull any punches (or hold back on the blue genitailia).

It is very important to point out that the case for this set isn't your typical Blu-ray box…it's actually made out of a pizza box!

DVD Review: Darker Than Black Volume 6

The Darker Than Black saga comes to an end in Volume 6, but the story of the Contractors and the Syndicate is left open for more to come. The high drama is clear evidence that the Japanese take their Anime seriously. The imagery and plot stand out and reflect a very eastern mindset and general life philosophy.

DVD Review: Slayers the First Three Seasons

Slayers is based on a Light Novel and manga of the same name that premiered way back in 1995. The hand drawn animation is beautifully done and the English voice cast did a great job. An interesting bit of trivia is that almost the entire main cast went on to be in Pokemon when that show was brought over here in '98. Some are more noticeable than others and most of the time I couldn't help but add "Ash" when Gourry Gabriev (the second star of the show) talks. Gourry is voiced by Eric Stuart, who went on to play Brock and James.

Entertainment Weekly/SyFy Party Photos

I was invited to take part in the exclusive red carpet at Hotel Solamar for Entertainment Weekly's joint party with SyFy. It was quite the event with tons of celebrities wandering by flashing cameras and warmly chatting with myself and a few other online reporters who waved for their attention. I am working on getting the audio together because it was quite loud out there, but I do have some pictures of the celebs that I got to chat with so I thought I'd put them up for you lucky readers!

First up some Battlestar Galactica people! Edward James Olmos stopped by to talk.

Grace Park looked beautiful and was more than happy to chat next to her former co-star….

True Blood at SDCC

The arrival of the "True Blood" cast to Ballroom 20 was met with loud applause and many fangirl screams, especially thanks to the fan favorite actor Alexander Skasgard being there. Also in attendance was Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Rutina Wesley, Michelle Forbes, Nelsan Ellis, Sam Trammell, Deborah Ann Woll, Alan Ball, and the writer of the original series Charlaine Harris. It was great to see such a full panel, but it also meant that not every actor could be as fully addressed as we'd like. There was so much to ask and very little time to do it in!
