DVD Review: Darker Than Black Volume 6

The Darker Than Black saga comes to an end in Volume 6, but the story of the Contractors and the Syndicate is left open for more to come. The high drama is clear evidence that the Japanese take their Anime seriously. The imagery and plot stand out and reflect a very eastern mindset and general life philosophy.
DVD Review: Slayers the First Three Seasons

Slayers is based on a Light Novel and manga of the same name that premiered way back in 1995. The hand drawn animation is beautifully done and the English voice cast did a great job. An interesting bit of trivia is that almost the entire main cast went on to be in Pokemon when that show was brought over here in '98. Some are more noticeable than others and most of the time I couldn't help but add "Ash" when Gourry Gabriev (the second star of the show) talks. Gourry is voiced by Eric Stuart, who went on to play Brock and James. Blu-ray Review: Coraline
Imagine for a moment that you have discovered a door to another reality. This world would be extremely close to the every day living that you experience right now, except for one small difference. Every aspect of the world around you has improved considerably. Would you choose to stay in this pleasant replication of your known reality, or will you go home and tough it out despite the imperfections? This is the decision that Coraline Jones has to make in Coraline, now available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Blu-ray Review: Green Lantern- First Flight![]()

Manga Review: One Piece Volume 1, Romance Dawn![]() “I’m gonna be the KING of the PIRATES!!!”

Book Review: The Lord of the Sands of TimeWe go from the future and the past, one time stream to another, but the real issue is the continuation of humanity. Issui Ogawa has done a lovely job of addressing the ultimate destruction of humanity and the knowledge that the only way to stop it is by going back in time to change time. There is also the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to do the job for you.
Interview and Movie Review for The CollectorFriday night was an event filled evening with a special screening of The Collector and preceded by an interview with Writer Patrick Melton, writer/director Marcus Dunstan, both involved with Feast and Saw IV, V VI, and the films star Josh Stewart. ![]() I have to admit, as I did to them, that my agenda was to meet the men who put Henry Rollins in pink sweats (Feast). Patrick and Marcus admitted that this was actually a concession to the rating, as the script originally called for his pants to be torn off by the creatures and to be nude. Twice. They talked about his intensity and work ethic, how he showed up on time and prepared. DVD Review: The Middleman: The Complete Series
I have been surrounded by comics all of my life. My grandfather was a cartoonist during World War II. My family went to Comic-Con number zero. This has been a part of our lives. We read the western comics, the sci-fi comics, but most of all the superhero comics. So when I found out that The Middleman would be a series on ABC Famiily, I jumped at the chance to watch it. It turned out to be the best new series when it premiered, and I watched every show. It was everything that I wanted a modern superhero show to be, funny, Smart, heroic. All with a sense of self, and that which came before it. This was the new hero show. DVD Review: Big Man Japan
![]()
A reluctant hero, who is not seen as a hero, and is starving to be a hit on Japanese TV. Are you confused yet? I was very confused for the first 10 minutes of this insane but outstanding movie. This is the most bizarre adult adaptation of a Japanese Monster movie I have ever seen. Taking the entire genre and wrapping it into a documentary is brilliant and hilarious to boot. Highlights This film opens as a documentary of Big Sato, or Big Man Japan. He is an everyday human that can transform himself into a giant when monsters decide to drop by and reek a little havoc. The first 10 minutes set the entire story up. It provides a glimpse into the mind of this strange convoluted man. There several great references to things getting bigger when needed and they become more relevant later in the movie. DVD Review: Kyo Kara Maoh!, the Complete Season two Set
