Movie Review: Watchmen (Spoiler-free)

Who watches the Watchmen? 300 lucky people at WonderCon 2009, that’s who! ComicsOnline was there to bask in the glorious film at the Metrion Theater in downtown San Francisco.

Now there are several questions that everyone wants to know. Without spoiling, we’ll answer at least two:

1. Does it live up to expectations? Yes.

2. Did Warner Brothers do it justice? Oh most certainly yes.

This is the most faithful adaptation of any book and or graphic novel to screen that I have ever seen. Yes there are some minor changes. We’ve all heard how they changed the ending a bit and how they removed the Black Freighter and Under the Hood interludes…but honesty, the film didn’t suffer as a result. Even with the slightly changed ending, the point of the story definitely gets across.

Blu-ray Review: Election

The 1999 film Election is now available on Blu-ray!

Election, based off the book of the same name is about a subject that many of us all know and have grown to love/hate over the years. High School and the many politics that govern it. We are introduced to Matthew Brodrick who sadly is not playing Ferris Buller, but a teacher, Jim McAllister, who fails at life yet takes such joy at working with the school and the students there. Reese Witherspoon plays Tracey, a Senior in High School who has had a secret affair with a member of the teaching staff (her actions led to the staff member getting fired). Reese Witherspoon can definitely play a crazy, vindictive, sex crazed co-ed.

Blu-ray Review: Stargate Ark of Truth

For ten amazing years viewers had the privilege of watching the adventures of the military team known as SG-1 travel through the Stargate and travel to new worlds. Then, during the filming of their 200th episode, the staff was notified that the show would not be returning for an 11th year. That would have been good to have known earlier because the team on the show had introduce a new villain called the Ori who were more powerful than any other villain Earth had faced. In order to finish the story and continue the adventures of SG-1 MGM and Fox did the only thing they could: Make a movie! Stargate: The Ark of Truth was released last year as a Direct to DVD feature length film and has finally made its way to Blu-ray!

Blu-ray and DVD Review: Hulk Vs!

Lighting strikes twice with the new dual disc DVD and Blu-ray releases of Hulk Vs. Marvel is kind enough to give us not one, but two different battles featuring the Hulk Vs Wolverine and the Hulk Vs Thor!

Hulk Vs Wolverine
Based on the trailer that Lionsgate released, we were lead to believe that this movie would focus on the original story of Hulk Vs Wolverine from Hulk 181 (which was Wolverine’s first appearance). In reality, the film is a great fight between the two character but has a different focus:

DVD Review: Pineapple Express

From the creators of Superbad and Knocked Up comes the new comedy Pineapple Express which is now available on DVD!

Story

The film tells the story of Stoner/Process Server Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) who delivers a subpoena to accused Drug Lord Ted Jones (Gary Cole). Denton catches Jones in the act of murdering someone and takes off from the scene, but in the process ditches a roach at the scene of the crime. Well, this was not any ordinary weed mind you, this was the incredibly rare strain called “Pineapple Express”. Jones is able to identify the roach and tracks down a man named Red (Danny McBride), who happens to be the only distributor of Express in town. Red gives in and reveals that he has only sold it to a burnt out named Saul Silver (James Franco). Dale has of course fled to Saul’s place to hide and is immediately found by Jones’ men (Craig Robinson and Kevin Corrigan) and hilarity ensues.
