Supanova Pop Culture Expo 2012: Melbourne Day Two

The geeks were out in force today

by David “Aussie Dave” Lobato, Reporter

Supanova 2012 officially opened to general public ticket holders on a very sunny Saturday the 14th of April at 10am. The Royal Melbourne Showgrounds was the (not so) secret headquarters for the event, with ample parking spaces and several public transportation options (including a special Supanova train service) in operation meaning that getting to the event itself was a rather straightforward affair.

Special Event: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Royal Wedding

This past weekend, The Hub put on a spectacular event in honor of what could be called “The Wedding Event Of The Year” (TM). Shining Armor and Princess Candance are getting married on the season finale of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which airs this Saturday at 1 pm eastern on The Hub. No expense was spared for the Wedding party in Los Angeles, which featured a menagery of guests who were excited about the royal event!

Blu-ray/DVD Review: War Horse

by Karissa Barrows, Editor

Albert Narracott (Irvine) and Joey

When you think “horse movie”, what do you think of?  Black BeautySeabiscuitSpirit: Stallion of the Cimarron?  Typically, I usually think some movie that’s going to make me cry because of shameless horse-killing, the overplayed horse-separated-from-loved-owner-and-later-reunited storyline proven to elicit tears, or some cowboy movie.  War Horse, Steven Spielberg’s newest film, uses those first two, mixed with a little Seabiscuit-style “miracle horse” aspect, and a little bit of storytelling I thought slightly reminiscent of Tarantino – and makes for a huge success.

Movie Review: Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope

“When a woman tells you to grow up, that’s God’s way of telling you to get a new woman… There’s three billion women on the planet, and not a lot of great comics, so it’s an easy choice.” -Chuck Rosanski, Mile High Comics

by Kevin Gaussoin, Editor-in-Chief

San Diego Comic-Con is the cultural Mecca of geeks everywhere, the one place where we can all gather together and gaze across the vast landscape of all our varied fandom obsessions from superheroes to sci-fi to fantasy to horror to anime to video games and every related subject–Where we can not only hang out with each other but we can meet the creators and stars of all our favorite stuff–where ‘Trek and ‘Wars nerds can take up their sabers and phasers, not to battle each other but to pose with the next generation of geeks or to drink with the real Green Lantern or Duke Nukem and listen together to bands play songs about Aquaman or Laurence Fishburne and then look over and say to each other in the words of Joss Whedon: “Are we not dope?”

TV Review: The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – “The Private War of Doctor Doom”

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

by Kroze Kresky, Media Editor, and Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

This Sunday, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes returns for Season 2, which features an apperance by the Fantastic Four. Marvel was kind enough to screen the episode early at WonderCon 2012!

TV Review: Community “Digital Exploration of Interior Design”

by Kroze Kresky, Media Editor

After first being screened at WonderCon 2012 to thunderous applause, this episode of Community seems to be the beginning of something epic brewing at Greendale. First off, let me get this out of the way and mention Subway’s sudden involvement in the show as of late. For fans of another NBC cult hit Chuck, they know that when the show was having trouble, they were able to get some additional backing from Subway and it seems that Community is trying to do the same thing here, only to a much more hilarious extent.

TV Review: Breaking In – “Game of Jones”

by Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

Breaking In continues its hotstreak of episodes with “Game of Jones”!

You know who is great? Jones. He always takes care of everyone in the office. I especially love it when he buys everyone lunch. He sure is nice. Wait… Jones isn’t real? Don’t tell the boss… Oz gets in a bit of trouble when Molly gets suspicious about the missing, but grateous, Mr. Jones, who is supposedly Contra Security’s International Sales Specialist. Oz enlists Cash’s aid to throw her off the trail, but Cash takes things a bit too far. Meanwhile, Cam attempts to subdue his crazy new boss, before she goes off on the entire office.
