Just when you thought that the creative minds behind the IDW Star Trek comics couldn’t possibly get any bolder after their infamous Day of Blood event, they decided to BLOW UP the Star Trek Universe. That’s right, the story that we know has changed and the characters that we love have been reinvented by Lore. The Lore War has begun, and things might never be the same again. Remember when Doctor Doom took the Beyonders’ power in Secret Wars 3 (2015)? This is sort of the same thing, but with Benjamin Sisko and a surprising second character playing the parts of Doom and Strange.
Star Trek: Lore War #1 is now available at your local comic stores thanks to the team at IDW Publishing. Spoiler-free review ahead.

Official Synopsis:
The start of an all-new crossover event between Star Trek and Defiant is here! From the Eisner-nominated writers of Star Trek, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly; the critically acclaimed writer of Star Trek: Defiant, Christopher Cantwell; and artist Davide Tinto (Star Wars: Bounty Hunters and Devil’s Reign), Lore War #1 shows us a universe rebuilt in Lore’s image. The crews of the Theseus and the Defiant scattered across the universe with no memory of who they once were — some even worship Lore as their God. Lore has won; his rule is absolute. But The Sisko remains, and there are forces who wish to remind him of his power.
Creative Team:
Writers: Christopher Cantwell, Collin Kelly, & Jackson Lanzing
Artist: Davide Tinto

It all has been building to this. We already knew that Lore was a crazy, narcissistic, unhinged android, but we never expected that he would find a way to wield the power of the Gods and overwrite the universe in his image…but he did. Since we first met Lore, he’s shown us that he’s obsessed with controlling his brother Data and the rest of his environment to show Data and at this point, the entire Star Trek multiverse, that he is the superior android and big daddy Soong was wrong to forsake endless temper tantrum Lore in favor of logical heroic Data. Now that he’s got his dearest wish, what’s next? Clearly it’s up to The Sisko to stop him.
But just in case he decides to read this review, all hail Lore!
Seriously, Star Trek: Lore War #1 is one hell of a start to the next big Star Trek event. Day of Blood was an epic story, and this feels like the creative team turned the dial to 11. As has been the case since IDW took on Star Trek comics, the character voices and likenesses continue to ring true, making this another crossover that we could only have hoped for in our dreams.
