by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

The RE-Evolution continues!

The adventures of the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit the stands on October 16th, but thanks to our friends at IDW, we got a sneak peek at TMNT: The Last Ronin II: Re-Evolution #3. We know that the title itself might a mouthful, but just like a killer slice of pizza, this book is worth your time.

Official Synopsis:
Having lain in wait for over a decade, underworld forces are making their moves to reclaim New York City. As the fighting gets more desperate, Casey Marie Jones and the new generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles struggle to save rebel bases under attack, but they’re outnumbered and lacking both intel and allies. With the tide of the battle rapidly turning against them, Casey Marie must make hard calls about who she can trust and how to keep her family and city safe. The legacy continues as legendary TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman reassembles the acclaimed creative team for the epic next chapter of The Last Ronin!

Creative Team:
Writers: Tom Waltz & Kevin Eastman
Art: Esau & Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop, Kevin Eastman
Colors: Luis Antonio Delgado
Letters and Design: Shawn Lee

The Gang War rages on…Although things were looking bleak for our new heroes in a half shell, the tide might have started to turn with the revelation that this new batch of turtles have unique powers! Yi’s brand new electric powers might have saved the day for now, but what does this mean for her and her siblings? As the Resistance regroups, a new sinister plan is about to strike at all they hold dear.

One of the unique aspects of this story was the creative leveraging of Esau & Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop, Kevin Eastman distinctive styles. Not only did this highlight some key moments from Walz & Eastman’s story, but the unique way in which it was done really added some cool interconnectivity to this chapter. Delgado’s colors continue to impress, and Lee’s letters and designs put a perfect bow on the adventure.

IDW is truly on a roll with the Last Ronin adventures, and I hope that we continue to see more from this next generation of turtles for years to come.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
