Comic Book Review: Void Rivals #13

The Energon Universe continues to expand in the latest chapter of Void Rivals! We’ve seen Cybertronians and other cosmic characters from the Transformers franchise in play since the launch of this incredible series, but now it’s time for Cobra to blast off into space. This can only mean trouble for our heroes on the Sacred Ring… Find out more as a new arc begins in Void Rivals #13 from Skybound Entertainment!

Creative Team:

Letters by Rus Wooton

Cobra has set controls for outer space now, flying higher than ever before (sorry, I couldn’t resist the Power Rangers reference). Now that the nefarious leaders of Cobra are aware of the existence of Cybertronians and the power of Energon, they set out into the void to track down more for themselves. Will Pythona find a way to succeed in a mission that seems to be a long shot at best? Meanwhile, Solila and the Handroid venture to the inner workings of the Sacred Ring. The Handroid asks some of the questions that we’ve all been wondering about Zerta Trion (a.k.a. Zerta), but those answers will have to wait a bit longer… While Solila works on her quest, Darak returns home with aid from Springer. Father and son have an uncomfortable reunion as our hero learns more about the burden of preventing “The Unity”. Lastly, we learn more about Premiere Zalilak’s fate as he is educated about Zerta by Mistress Vill. “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”, and that seems to be very likely in the case of the inhabitants of the Sacred Ring…

Void Rivals #13 kicks off an interesting new arc for the series. This chapter felt a bit more disjointed than previous issues at times due to the four different storylines that are now happening simultaneously within its pages, but the creative team was savvy enough to pull them all together by the end of the issue. It is interesting to see how the puzzle pieces fit together now that we can see some of the bigger picture elements, but I still have no idea where the book is going, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

Rating: ★★★★☆

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
