It’s Morphin Time! Power Rangers might not be on our screens at the moment, but the morphinomenal story continues thanks to our friends at BOOM! Studios.
With Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid hitting stores this week, fans will be treated to a special set of anthology adventures brought to you in part by several Power Rangers cast members! David Yost (MMPR, ZEO, Cosmic Fury, Once & Always), Walter Jones (MMPR, Once & Always), Steve Cardenas (MMPR, ZEO, Once & Always), Nakia Burrise (ZEO), and Meghan Camarena (Hyperforce) have teamed up with Mat Groom (Mighty Morphin, Inferno Girl Red), Paulina Ganucheau (DC Pride: Better Together), Tango (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures IDW Endless Summer), Patrick Mulholland (MOM Breaks the Internet), and Anand Ramcheron (Marvel’s Voices) to craft these new installments.
- “Billy’s Metamorphosis” focuses on Billy’s story post-Power Rangers: ZEO. What exactly was he up to after leaving Earth? It turns out that our favorite Blue Ranger had some exciting adventures…IN SPACE!
- “Tanya’s Heavy-Metal Rescue” gives us a much-needed update on Tanya’s activities after her story ended in Power Rangers Turbo (Nakia should have been invited back for anniversary specials). When her friends are in trouble, Zeo Ranger II is ready to get back to action!
- “In the Red” reveals more about the family of Rocky DeSantos. The story features a surprising character briefly taking up the mantle of the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger.
- “An Apple a Day” puts Zack Taylor in the spotlight as he helps others to realize their potential and overcome their fears. From hip-hop-kido to Halloween-themed monsters, this one packs quite a punch.
- “Chloe’s Chaos Kitchen” feels like a Hyperforce fever dream. Chloe and Vesper go all in and make a Candy-Rito!
Across the Morphin Grid is a great treat for Power Rangers fans as the anthology-style structure features something for everyone, and the fact that their respective actors each had a hand in bringing the character-centric pieces to life made it even better. The two that really stood out from the batch were Tanya and Rocky’s stories, but all of them were a lot of fun and well executed.
Beyond the stories themselves, the artists really did a wonderful job putting their own spin on the Power Rangers universe. Each chapter had a distinctive style that perfectly complemented their respective narratives.
