Comic Book Review: Ultimates #3

by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

The Maker is set to return in less than 18 months, and it’s up to The Ultimates to end his villainous reign over their world once and for all. Iron Lad, Thor, and Sif head out to look for new allies, and find themselves face to face with a mutated island full of monstrous creatures AND the Ultimate Universe version of She-Hulk! Ultimates #3 is now available at your local comic store.

The clock is ticking and heroes are in short demand, Iron Lad takes his Asgardian peers on a mission to a Gamma-irradiated island under the control of The Hulk in the hopes that they can find others like him. When they come across the protector of the island, they get a bit more than they bargained for. This is NOT the She-Hulk you know, but we are extremely excited to get to know her. What will it take to get her to join the Ultimates? Well…you’ll have to see for yourself.

This new Ultimate Universe has gotten the attention of readers and it’s for a damn good reason. The Ultimates continues to subvert expectations while weaving a story that makes a series impact with each new release. The ticking clock element adds to the weight of the story, and it will be interesting to see how our heroes fair when all is said and done. I’m particularly excited about the upcoming issue, as the creative team have been teasing that it reveals the secret origins of Doctor Doom (aka the Reed Richards of this universe).

This isn’t The Avengers, and it sure isn’t the previous version of The Ultimates. Don’t miss out on one of Marvel’s most exciting stories!

Rating: ★★★★½

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
