by Zoe Gaussoin, Assistant Editor

Did the The Exorcism at 1600 Penn title catch your attention too? Exorcism? Cool… But exorcism at the White House? Executive cool! I think there are some demons at 1600 Penn that can’t be exercised… Am I right?  What evil is lurking in the shadows? Nuclear attacks? Demon possession? School bullies? Smear campaigns? Antichrist? How will a workaholic President parent her disconnected teens while navigating this devil’s lair? Find out here with ComicsOnline in this new politically charged pungent horror series spawning from the depths of IDW this Halloween season.

Official Description:
This October, IDW debuts a chilling new four-issue original supernatural horror series perfect for fans of the Nice House on the Lake and the Haunting of Hill House. From the pen of rising comics writer Hannah Rose May (Rogues’ Gallery) and acclaimed artist Vanesa Del Rey (Scarlet Witch).

Kelly Doyle has just been elected the first woman President of the United States of America, and boiling political tension could spill over at any second. Having to balance being a mother to two teenagers and navigating the shifting media landscape, all while preventing World War III, has Kelly spread thin, but she could never predict that the nation’s hallowed halls would soon become a demonic battleground for good versus evil.

Before you know it, Hannah Rose May has inched you up to the edge of your seat and you’ll be adding this series to your pull list as well. May introduced a political drama and imbued it with a demonic horror story. Artist Vanesa Del Rey had a thoughtful approach to their empathic interpretation of some of the more subtle tones and foreshadowing that May carefully hinted at, helping them envelop the reader into the story. A few panels the artist drew in a more creative way did not flow easily to me. Having to figure out the order did take me out of the story for a second but I was pulled back in easily. I really enjoyed how Madam President’s expression was drawn after the incident at school and had little endorphin releases every time I found demonic easter eggs in Del Rey’s artwork. The eyes and lips held a lot of emotion throughout the work. I don’t think the President was as concerned with the attacks overseas, as she was with her daughter’s attack. What is the President hiding?

So why am I picking up The Exorcism at 1600 Penn #2? Because I need to know why she has so much fear in her eyes. Also, think of all the conspiracies that could be explained! What if Nixon really wasn’t a crook? Let’s find out together here at ComicsOnline because I’m scared now. Don’t leave me alone, I’m going to have nightmares.
