ComicsOnline Celebrates 25 Years of Everything Geek Pop Culture!

by Kevin Gaussoin and Matt Sernaker, Editors-in-Chief

25 years. That’s a long time.

ComicsOnline is proud to be celebrating 25 years of exclusive interviews, reviews, giveaways, and covering everything geek pop culture!

Many years ago, Kevin Gaussoin fulfilled a geek dream of turning the homepage of his local comic book shop into a comic book anchored geek pop culture website. See, San Diego’s “Comic City” had a sweet domain name, but a terrible site. On the spindly legs of ancient code but with a powerful passion for comics, ComicsOnline.com was born.

In the beginning, ComicsOnline was mostly about comic news, reviews, and editorials. Back in 2003, we began attending San Diego Comic-Con as press and started out with just a few print interviews each year.

As ComicsOnline grew, Matt Sernaker joined and began doing what he does best: developing relationships with publicists, publishers, creators, and stars. From Stan Lee to the Power Rangers (ALL of the Power Rangers), we’ve have had some incredible opportunities thanks to our wonderful partners.

Over the years, we’ve covered events and interviewed industry professionals all over the country and all over the world. We’ve also expanded from covering comics to television, movies, games, events, and everything geek pop culture!

This site has always been a labor of love, and something that we’ve used as a creative outlet outside of the requirements of our day jobs (yes, we have those). ComicsOnline is unique in the pop culture press world in that we are privately owned and operated. We’ve never been backed by corporate interests, but we remain open to advertisers.

If you haven’t already done so, we would truly appreciate a LIKE/FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE on our various social channels.

Beyond our “home convention” at SDCC, we’ve covered NYCC, C2E2, FAN EXPO, WonderCon, Baltimore Comic-Con, GalaxyCon, Creation Entertainment’s events (including ST-CHI), ReedPop’s various events, Wizard World’s events, Oz Comic Con events, Supanova events, and many more.

This year, our staff presently consists of Kevin Gaussoin and Matt Sernaker (Editors-in-Chief), Mike Favila (Senior Editor) Zoe Gaussoin and Emma Smith (Assistant Editors), Mynda Swaim (Media Editor), Kendrick Gaussoin and Jorge Jones (Photographers), Emil Favila, Mike Fye, Laura Janota, Troy-David Phillips, Tony Rhea, Joe Schickman, and Greg Uke (Reporters) and Joe Iconic (Cartoonist).

We just really love pop culture, and it is such an honor to celebrate not only our anniversary, but all of the talented individuals who are responsible for creating our favorite comics, movies, and television series as well. With that being said, we are excited to announce a brand new inclusive ongoing interview series: SECRET ORIGINS! This will feature creators across various industries and will showcase their stories, history, and current projects. Our first batch of Secret Origins features starts (9/26) and includes Peter Tomasi, Dan Slott, Nicola Scott, Stephanie Williams, Dan Riba, Kevin Alteri, Heather Antos, and Jeremy Adams!

Additionally, we are pleased to share that we will be continuing our hit Storytime with ComicsOnline exclusive interview series. These features will take a deeper look into the careers of some of our favorite guests. Recent Storytime segments have featured Jim Cummings, Grey DeLisle, Rob Paulsen, Maurice LaMarche, Sean Gunn, Jeri Ryan, and Jeffrey Combs. We hope to do many more segments to highlight these talented individuals and will be sharing more announcements in the near future, but in the meantime, you can check out all of the wonderful interviews and short segments on our ComicsOnline YouTube Channel).

Most importantly, we would like to thank all our staff over the years, all the creators and stars who have spent time with us, and all the publicists and teams who have worked with us in partnership to help deliver these reviews and interviews over the past quarter century.

We hope you enjoy what’s to come in our next 25 years of everything geek pop culture!

Kevin has run ComicsOnline since 2000 so everything you like about it is due to his excellent staff and everything you don't like is all his fault. He hopes you'll comment and share the crap out of it either way. Also he sends you virtual hugs.
