by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

The heroes are at their wits-end. To stave off an attack from the Trinity of Evil, Clark detonated the Fortress while Dreamer drew a line in the sand that led to their demise. With Jonathan Kent fully under the control of the Brainiac Queen, it’s only a matter of time before the forces of good are hunted town. Finding temporarily respite on Paradise Island, Nightwing and the remaining heroes launch several counter-offensives to try and turn the battle in their favor. As they make their moves against Waller, support will come in the form of some unlikely allies. While all of these pieces are in motion, Barry Allen learns more about Waller’s machinations and must face the truth about his recent discoveries.

Mark Waid & Dan Mora continue to act as DC’s new powerhouse duo. Each chapter of the main Absolute Power event feels substantial both from a storytelling and visual perspective. This comes as no surprise to those of us who have been reading Batman & Superman: World’s Finest, but their ability to connect the dots and comfortably include so many recognizable characters without feeling overwhelming is a testament to their work. This issue is full of big moments but a highlight for me was seeing characters who don’t normally get a chance to interact do so without it feeling awkward or forced. The Nightwing/Barda dynamic was great, as was Nightwing continuing to call the shots and strategically lead the depowered heroes.

That last page has some big implications for the DC Universe moving forward, and it will be interesting to see how things manage to wrap up in the final issue.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
