I will not send memes to my daughter during school (fingers crossed!)
Banning Cell Phones
Our state legislature banned cell phones from the classrooms. I have to wait longer for my daughter’s reaction to memes I send. They are currently letting students use iPads for taking notes. You can do almost anything on an iPad you can do on a phone, so what was the purpose again? This generation are experts at thinking around blocks to technology. Hey, at least we are raising the next wave of hackers, right? Use your power for good!!!
Many parents do not like not being able to get in touch with their children during a crisis. I do not think they are thinking this through. If an incident happens at my daughter’s school, she doesn’t need to worry about answering our texts and calls. Safety first. Parents running to a school with an active shooter for example, would only make things worse.
What if the schools are successful with taking away the tether to social media? Don’t get me wrong; one of the themes of this comic is the importance of unplugging. We are clearly beyond our capability for handling the technology we invented. You could make the same argument about driving cars being beyond our capacity by looking at the vast number of accident fatalities.
Still, a possible unintended consequence is that youth will finally have a reason to unify and protest the perception of a lost freedom.
The OG
The first version of this comic was when my daughter went back to school from quarantine. ComicsOnline posted this version on January 10, 2020. It still blows my mind I have been posting comics for over four years now!
