Comic Book Review: Transformers #11

by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

The Decepticons are winning. Cybertron has appeared in Earth’s orbit, and the Autobots must find a way to stop their ancient enemies before all hope is lost. Cue the music, it’s time to see if they’ve still got The Touch with the release of Tranformers #11 from Skybound Entertainment!

Now that Shockwave and Soundwave have successfully connected a space bridge do bring Cybertron to Earth, it seems as though the Autobots might be facing their darkest hour. Just as all hope seems lost, the heroes are reconnected with facets from their past as Elita-1 and Ultra Magnus arrive on Earth. After a tumultuous reunion between old friends, a new plan is launched that might turn the tide in their favor…

Skybound Entertainment really struck gold with this creative team, as Tranformers continues to be one of the most impressive books releasing monthly. The dial is turned up to 11, and despite this being a book about giant transforming robots, it is packed to the brim with emotional storytelling. Whether it is through the lens of the Autobots or their new human companions, the level of empathy (or lack thereof if you’re a Decepticon) captured in these pages is pretty astounding. There’s a wonderful callback in this issue to an early moment with Optimus that resonated heavily for me, and I’m sure it will hit hard for others as well.

There’s a reason why Transformers just won TWO Eisner Awards this year, now is the perfect time to join in the fun.

Rating: ★★★★½

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
