Anti-Littering Comics
With today’s cartoon, #NotesForTracy join the ranks of Smokey the Bear, Walt Kelly’s most iconic Pogo Cartoon, and that Crying Indian Commercial that I would leave the room to avoid when I was little. The “Crying Indian” or Iron Eyes Cody of the “Keep American Beautiful” anti-littering campaign impacted me more than an other Public Service Announcement, ever. Seriously, I would run out of the room when it came on television. Oh, and Smokey the Bear turned 80 this month!
But not Charlie Brown
It’s funny enough, but if you read through the earliest Peanuts cartoon strips in the mid-1950’s, there are numerous examples of Charlie Brown and his peers littering indiscriminately. I’m certain this trend changes, but currently I’m in 1954 of reading those comics one month at a time, so I am not certain.
The OG Cartoon
ComicsOnline posted the first version of this cartoon way back on August 8, 2022. It was rare, especially in the earlier comics, to have so many critters appear in the same cartoon. Also helping out on this Trail Clean Up are our Hero Team, as well as Sarge, Miata Ann’s father. Having the super heroes do community service is a recurring theme.
