Why you never hunt snipe with Spike and Norville. As if you were thinking about it, right?

Snipe Hunting

My brother John and I avoided the snipe hunting trap when we were kids. I assume it was because we were avid readers? Maybe we had heard the stories of snipe hunting. The initiation of many peer groups included a testing of your mettle. There are many versions of snipe hunting, all with the same purpose. Did you have a thick skin or not? Did you take yourself too seriously? It may fall under the realm of bullying nowadays. Back in the day, it was a social reminder not to take yourself too seriously. Still, I am glad I was never left “holding the bag.”

First draft OG version

ComicsOnline.com posted the first draft of this cartoon on March 25, 2022. It definitely needed a digital facelift!

Using four panels instead of three let me spread out the dialogue. Note Zee’s pronouns — why would a robot assume gender norms? Especially when your name is Zee. Just go with Zee, dude. Oh, now I ruined it!

It’s OK if you are not familiar with the snipe, and don’t want to google it. A more detailed explanation of the snipe is coming soon!

I wonder if anyone has ever created a superhero called the Snipe?

Joe is a husband, #girldad, and Orphan of Apollo. He has drawn critters since riding the bus in 5th grade, and they have appeared on notes to loved ones, graffiti in a Latin classroom (sorry Rev. Dr Clark!), training slides for work, a newsletter in Alaska, and notes to his wife Tracy, who encouraged him to share them with the world. Contains pop culture references, stuff from the news, but mostly bad dad jokes.
