Latuda’s attempt of an After-Action Review goes astray!

The boys continue to learn nothing from their paranormal misadventures.

Background Information

I enjoyed drawing this background! One of my favorite things about re-visiting my previous ink and pencil color cartoons is encouragement to spend more time on the backgrounds again. I am inspired by the beautiful nature inked in Walt Kelly’s Pogo. I also wanted to integrate more movement in my comic strips like Jeff Smith’s Bone.

Original Version

I posted the original version of this comic strip on March 9, 2022. Notice how the speaker in the newer version is typically on the left. According to Comic Lab, a great podcast I recommend to anyone dabbling in doodling, it is best to have the first speaker on the left. This rule of thumb makes sense in Western culture where we read from left to right. Read the second panel of the first draft version. It is easier to follow the conversation when the speakers are aligned with how we read. Stretching the comic out to four panels makes it an easier read, in terms of less words per panel. The pacing of four panels encouraged me to switch the dialogue around to end with the funnier (but lower brow) fart joke.

Since I added a fourth panel, it also gave me enough space to include the Doom Lounge/Cootie Corner attempt at a running gag. I love the idea of Dr. Diablo and his only henchman bickering over the name of their lair.

Joe is a husband, #girldad, and Orphan of Apollo. He has drawn critters since riding the bus in 5th grade, and they have appeared on notes to loved ones, graffiti in a Latin classroom (sorry Rev. Dr Clark!), training slides for work, a newsletter in Alaska, and notes to his wife Tracy, who encouraged him to share them with the world. Contains pop culture references, stuff from the news, but mostly bad dad jokes.
