#NotesForTracy 07/01/24

First draft of this comic strip was posted on February 23, 2022, but it lacked a punchline. And the late fees joke. It reverses the usual trope, though – usually, it’s Spike or Norville that make the obvious error. Also, I was learning the whole “image size” thing, so the original comic strip was WAY small, so that’s why the dialogue is so hard to read. Note the first panel, though — I was inspired to try something other than my usual “talking head” approach of static characters, inspired by the next level artwork of Jeff Smith’s “Bone.”

Some Lizardman lore: One of our famous South Carolina cryptids is the Lizardman of Scape Ore Swamp. Most sources say the sightings of this cryptid start in the 1980’s but the first encounters between the English explorers and Native Americans included tales of lizardmen in pre-colonial South Carolina (see “The History of South Carolina by Walter Edgar.“) In my opinion, the locals could capitalize on the Lizardman Cryptid more. The otherwise excellent Kreepy Hollow Haunted attraction is practically inside of Scape Ore Swamp, and (last year at least) they didn’t even mention their local cryptid! If you get a chance, the haunted bus ride alone is worth the trip.

Joe is a husband, #girldad, and Orphan of Apollo. He has drawn critters since riding the bus in 5th grade, and they have appeared on notes to loved ones, graffiti in a Latin classroom (sorry Rev. Dr Clark!), training slides for work, a newsletter in Alaska, and notes to his wife Tracy, who encouraged him to share them with the world. Contains pop culture references, stuff from the news, but mostly bad dad jokes.
