After escaping to the wastelands, Darak and Solila found themselves facing off against the deadly warrior known as Proximus. The intense battle doesn’t go well for our heroes, as the final page of the last issue revealed that Solila had been impaled by her own weapon! As Darak attempts to get his companion to safety, he comes across his old crashed exo-suit from 10 years earlier. It seems like luck might have turned in their favor, as the two encounter another familiar Autobot…SPRINGER!? The triple-changing gets in on the action, as Proximus returns and attempts to take on the bot by himself. That’s right, a humanoid sized character versus a Transformer…which led to some very entertaining sequences. Meanwhile, the connections to the Transformers cosmic universe continue to grow as we cut to Quintessa for a very interesting exchange with the Quintessons. How do these new characters and their world connect to Ancient Cybertron? We are about to find out!
Void Rivals continues to be one of my favorite ongoing stories from Skybound. As a massive Transformers fan, I love how the story has incorporated elements of their lore into each chapter, but it is important to note that these new characters could easily stand on their own. Darak and Solila’s narrative is very interesting and unique, but I love that the creative team has been able to seamlessly insert them into the larger Energon Universe. Proximus versus Springer was an unexpected surprise from this issue and watching the battle unfold became even more entertaining thanks to their miss-matched sizes. Additionally, I’m really intrigued by the cut-scenes with the Skuxxoid and the Quintessons, and I have a feeling that we are going to see some major payoff for those moments in the coming issues.
