There is nothing more important than family. Most of the time. Unless the fate of the world depends on you saving/stopping family. That kind of takes priority. Strap in for one last adventure on Themyscira with the Birds as they take flight in Birds of Prey #6!
Official Description:
It’s all-out war on Themyscira as the team faces off against the mythical Megaera…can the Birds overcome this ancient evil?! Or will one of them have to pay the ultimate price…?
Creative Team:
Written by Kelly Thompson
Art by Leonardo Romero
Colors by Jordie Bellaire
Lettering by Clayton Cowles
Sin is seemingly rescued from Megaera by Dinah, but all is not right. While Megaera and Sin battle internally for control, Dinah and the Birds attempt to use the urn to remove Megaera’s influence. When the smoke clears and the birds return home, Dinah is alerted to a startling truth…and a new purpose!
Birds of Prey #6 is a satisfying and fitting end for the Megadeath story that sets up further adventure, mystery and exciting paths for story-telling. Thompson utilizes each character well, even utilizing Harley to talk some sense into Dinah during a tense moment. This elevates Harley above her usual “comic relief” role, and is a great example of how Thompson has effectively utilized the team she has put together with care. No character feels unnecessary in this final push, and it’s easy to say that the team wouldn’t have succeeded if they hadn’t ALL been there.
While the art in the last Birds of Prey issue wasn’t “bad” or “wrong”, it was a jarring change from the art that Leonardo Romero has provided, and it was a welcomed return in this issue. Sin’s new costume looks great, as do all of the characters. Megaera looks better in this style, as well as more organic-looking. If nothing else could be said about Romero and Bellaire’s work, it is classic and striking, and I think other books could easily benefit from this aesthetic.
Birds of Prey #6 is exciting, fun, and a great send-off for this iteration of the team. Whether some of the members return or not for the next leg of this adventure, Thompson and team have crafted something truly fantastic.
