You better watch out, you better not cry, don’t bother screaming because you will die, Santa Slay is released toodaaayy! R.L. Stine’s twisted mind is at it again in this holiday slasher. Buckle up! The Slay Ride this Santa has in store for you is full of Ho Ho Horror.
Official Description:
If you dare, get into the sinister spirit of the season and join The Nightmare Keeper for a demented Saint Nick story… one who decks the halls with holiday horror, crafting a very merry macabre Christmas unlike any other!
As malls continue to die, a down-and-out former mall Santa named Heinrick Fiddler’s rage turns to madness, and he’s dead-set on making sure department store shopping isn’t the only thing that’s deceased.
Treasured Fear Street and Goosebumps author R.L. Stine is joined by Bram Stoker Award-nominated artist Pius Bak (Eat the Rich) for another tale straight from your nightmares!
Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride #1 has a main cover by Francesco Francavilla (Night of the Ghoul), with variants by Jenny Frison (BRZRKR: Fallen Empire), Miguel Mercado (Go Go Power Rangers), Jae Lee & June Chung (The Dark Tower), and Zu Orzu (Grim).
After losing what little lucidity he had with his coveted Santa gig, this sanity stricken Santa is spreading Christmas fear this year. With his sleigh packed with his plague of portable reindeer rats, he snatches up lives and presents, executioner Grinch style. We are then introduced to the narrator, who’s fittingly named Nightmare Keeper. He looks like you can hear saran wrap crinkle while he speaks. While sitting in his Museum of Curiosities, he joyfully continues his Christmas tale of Santa’s Slay. Grab this issue and snuggle up with a tire iron while you read Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride #1.
R.L. Stine has a way of pulling you into his nightmare and he’s still giving me Goosebumps. If you enjoyed his fantastic thrillers in the 90’s, you are going to love how his nightmares come alive in the comic book world. Artist Pius Bak continues to ooze talent through his illustrations, the dark shadowing created dramatic tension and a plentiful nightmarescape in which colorist Frances Segala’s monster ink deposits blood-thick sentiments that hold you in horror, with flights of fear. From the writing to the illustrations, this killer team’s tale of terror sent shocks of adrenaline while eliciting a sense of nostalgia. Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride #1 is a great stocking stuffer to be on the lookout for this holiday season, just take the foot out first.
