The Countdown to “Day of Blood” continues with the release of Star Trek #8 from IDW Publishing. Three years after the end of the Dominion War, Captain Sisko finds himself back on Cardassia Prime. Despite the fact that the Cardassians ended the war side-by-side with the Federation, the current government is not terribly thrilled to see him. Sisko must stand trial for his past actions, and not even the Prophets will guess how this story ends!

Official Synopsis:
The newly established Obsidian Council of Cardassia Prime has spoken: The time has come for Benjamin Sisko to stand trial for the atrocities he ordered and for his contributions to war crimes by the Federation during the Dominion War. Arc two of the critically acclaimed Star Trek flagship comic series continues here!

Creative Team:
Writer: Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing
Artist: Mike Feehan
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Lettering: Clayton Cowles

While Sisko awaits his impending trial, an away team consisting of Tom, Shaxs, and Lily attempt to sneak into the ruins of the former Cardassian Science Ministry in an attempt to locate more Bajoran Orbs. Meanwhile, Sisko and Data discuss a potential trial strategy, only to be interrupted by our favorite tailor/spy…Garak! This “friendly face” offers his assistance with the trial, and Data sets off with the crew to continue their quest. While the away team was able to determine the location of a secret facility, the ability to get to that location is another challenge entirely. Jake comes to the rescue, as the answer to their problem lies in a classic episode of Deep Space Nine. Sisko’s trial begins, and it goes just about as well as one would expect. A surprise witness might be all that stands between Benjamin and death…so let’s hope for his sake that it is a good testimony.

This might be my favorite issue thus far in the Star Trek flagship title from IDW. This particular issue featured a connection to one of my favorite DS9 non-Dominion War episodes, and also doubled down with the reintroduction of Garak. Nothing is ever what it seems with his character, and I loved how that consistency played out with this chapter. The twist with the witness couldn’t have been handled better if they tried, as the impressive impact from this particular character choice was absolutely shocking. Additionally, the addition of Shaxs continues to shake things up in a great way, adding further interconnectivity to the Trek universe. Make sure you catch up on both Star Trek and Star Trek: Defiant as we get ready for the “Day of Blood” crossover.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
