When there’s trouble, you know who to call…THE TITANS! Following the events of Dark Crisis, the Justice League has officially disbanded. The biggest chance for hope was determined to be none other than Nightwing, who has been tasked with assembling a team to step up and fill the void. It’s time for the Titans to take the spotlight, and there is no better team to do it than the dynamic duo of Tom Taylor (Nightwing, DCeased) and Nicola Scott (Wonder Woman Historia). The Dawn of DC continues as Titans #1 is now available at your local comic book store!

Creative Team:
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Nicola Scott
Colorist: Annette Kwok
Letterer: Wes Abbott

The Titans have reached the big leagues and are now tasked with protecting the Earth. Nightwing has gathered the Titans to take their place rightful on the world stage, with a team consisting of himself, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire, Donna Troy, and The Flash (Wally West). Their recent relocation to Blüdhaven (see Tom Taylor’s Nightwing run for details) has allowed for the creation of a beautiful new Titans Tower to be created in the heart of the city. Moving day of course doesn’t quite go as planned, as our heroes must race to avert a nuclear meltdown and stop a familiar foe. Why is Titano trying to destroy a power plant, and what secrets does the mysterious Peacemaker know about the situation? As if these mysteries weren’t enough for their first team outing, the team must race to the rescue of one of their own as The Flash has been critically injured by an unknown assailant.

When this creative team was announced for Titans, I was absolutely thrilled as they have consistently demonstrated a deep love and understanding of the DC Universe (DCeased and Nightwing have been some of my favorite DC titles in recent years). With that being said, I was also very much aware of the fact that Tom Taylor loves to go for the strategic, yet emotional, gut-punch that will dial up the energy to an 11. In the case of Titans, Taylor knew exactly which heartstrings to pull as the injury of Mr. Wally West hits a little too close to home. From the opening pages, it is clear that a time-travel twist is involved, but I am still cautiously optimistic about the fate of our favorite red-headed superhero. Scott’s style continues to impress with stellar character designs, big surprises, and impactful splash pages (BB versus Titano was amazing). Kwok’s color choices were the icing on the cake, ensuring that each of these amazing characters were highlighted to perfection.

Titans is a wonderful jumping on point for new readers, uniting a line-up that is reminiscent of the hit Teen Titans cartoon along with fan-favorites Donna Troy and Wally West. I’m confident that Roy and Garth will join later on, but this is an A-List Titans team for their prominent new role in the DC Universe. The creative team quickly shows us just how much fun they can have with these super friends, taking us on a fun ride in their launch issue. The artwork and coloring help to showcase the vibrant world of the Titans, expertly complimenting the excitement of this opening adventure. The Titans are destined to make a major impact in the DC Universe, and they couldn’t be in better hands with this team of talented creators.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
