It has been quite a morphinominal week for fans. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers “Once & Always” has just hit Netflix, and now Boom! Studios has released Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Recharged Volume 1. This installment collects the grand finale of Ryan Parrott’s incredible run on the book with issue 100, as well as issues 101 & 102 from Melissa Flores’ engaging story.

Mighty Morphin #100

The Charge to 100 reaches its end as MMPR #100 has arrived! All of the epic adventures of our favorite teenagers with attitude have helped to prepare them for the battle ahead. Now that the Death Ranger has taken control of the Omega Rangers, can the Mighty Morphin team find a way to save their friends and restore balance to the universe?

Since joining the Boom! team on Go Go Power Rangers, readers would quickly learn that Ryan Parrott (Rogue Sun) has a unique understanding of the Ranger team. His character-driven stories have consistently been full of emotion and depth, providing fans with a greater insight into heroes that have been around for nearly 30 years. From the secret origins of Zordon, Lord Zedd, and The Omega Rangers, to the recent introduction of the Death Ranger, Ryan’s impact on this franchise has been nothing but… morphinominal to say the least. Additionally, he has assembled quite an impressive creative team to help tell his final installment in the Power Rangers universe. This issue features series artists Marco Renna and Moisés Hidalgo, with colorists Tamra Bonvillain and Matt Herms. Additionally, Eleonora Carlini, Francesco Mortarino, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Dan Mora, Hendry Presetya, and Miguel Mercado return to contribute to this milestone issue, adding their own flare and impact to the legacy that the Boom! Studios team has created throughout the impressive run.

Without going into spoilers, MMPR #100 does much to further the lore and impact of the multi-colored heroes in spandex. Over the last several issues, fans have been introduced to an earlier version of the characters from the In Space era, filling in the gaps on what happened prior to Andros’ adventures on screen. The history of the Death Ranger was revealed, and the Omega Rangers have fallen victim to their evil goals. Sacrifices must be made and legacy characters will absolutely be impacted as a result. Ryan’s ability to craft impactful set pieces and character moments is apparent throughout the issue, as there are several moments to make you cheer. Alternatively, if you are not an emotional wreck by the end of the issue, I would be truly shocked.

MMPR #100 is the perfect ending for Ryan’s run. He, along with his team, absolutely stuck the superhero landing with this story. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Omega Rangers, & In Space Rangers come together in a team-up installment that will blow you away. This is a must-read issue for fans and is a story that will have an impact for years to come.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101 & #102

Following the completion of Ryan Parrott’s morphinominal run on the series, the story gets a bold new direction from Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, The Dead Lucky) artist Simona Di Gianfelice (All-New Firefly), colorist Raúl Angulo (Mighty Morphin), and letterer Ed Dukeshire.

As seen in the preview pages below, Melissa and the team kick things into high gear right away. Readers are treated to major reveals regarding a missing piece of Power Rangers mythology, easily demonstrating that the creative team has a deep understanding of the importance of these characters and their legacy. Without going into spoilers, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101 & 102 set up some big changes, surprising character moments, and major reveals that will make you cheer as you turn from page to page.

This is the perfect point to jump in and join the fun and offers a significant payoff for longtime readers.

Extras

This volume also includes a full cover gallery, as well as character design concepts for Mistress Vile & The Vessel from superstar Dan Mora.

Overall

These particular issues are absolutely stunning from start to finish, and are sure to impress fans old and new. Although it might feel a bit overwhelming jumping in at the 100th issue, this really is a great spot to learn more about the impressive work that the Boom! Studios team continues to do with the Power Rangers franchise. Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott, and Mat Groom set the bar very high with their writing on the series, and Melissa Flores continues to impress by taking our favorite Teenagers with Attitude to new heights. Be sure to check out issue #107 in stores the week.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
