‘80s kids! Roll for initiative, but don’t change that dial! Dungeons and Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures is back (with a Venger)!
Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures brings back the characters we grew to love from the 1983 CBS Saturday morning cartoon in an all new comic book series by IDW. Hank the Ranger, Eric the Cavalier, Presto the Magician, Sheila the Thief, Bobby the Barbarian, and Diana the Acrobat (not to mention Uni the unicorn and Dungeon Master) have returned to tell us more tales from the Forgotten Realms. Issue 1, “Prisoner of the Deep, Part One” reacquaints us with the kids and their overarching mission to return home. A conversation about this very subject is interrupted first by an appearance by Dungeon Master, and then by some minions of Venger, the force of evil.
Issue One of Dungeons and Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures is written by David M. Booher and Sam Maggs with art by George Kambadais with lettering by Ed Dukeshire. Cover A is by interior artist Kambadais, Cover B by Brenda Hickey, and there is also a retailer incentive cover with art by Tim Levins and colors by Katrina Mae Hao.
The art in Dungeons and Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures is appropriately cartoony, but with additional texture afforded by modern color techniques. The pacing and action evoke the original cartoon perfectly. While issue #1 is only a reminder of the characters and a scene-setter, it ends on just the right cliffhanger to bring us back after these messages, I mean next issue.
