When I first heard about this remake of Sam & Max Save The World, I couldn’t quite place my finger on where I remembered it from. Had I played it at a friend’s house on Wii? I may have read some of the old issues from back in the day. I really loved Telltale Games and everything that they put out, so I was excited to get my hands on this. When the company went under, I wondered if we’d ever see any of their IP again. When it originally came out, the game was released over 6 episodes (like a lot of their games) and you could play them as they would release.
I didn’t play Sam and Max during its first iteration, but this update of Sam & Max Save The World is a great throwback and a lot of fun. Steve Purcell wrote and created the original book, and the game is just as funny as the comics.
The gameplay is really straightforward and responsive, which is more than you really need for a point and click. Clicking with the mouse or using the arrow keys is equally fast, and if you have already gone through the dialog choices, you can right click and skip through it. The back and forth between Sam and Max is hilarious, with slightly un-PC zingers between the two characters.
The graphics are crisp and clear. All the assets loaded up very smooth and took no time at all on my 5 year old Dell.
The digital release has been available on GOG.com and Steam for a while, but Limited will be releasing a physical release for PC and Nintendo Switch in the coming months! This would be tons of fun on a handheld, and nice to chuckle along with in public. (Headphones preferable, of course.) They are sold out on their website, but keep an eye out!
