Convention Photos: Art and Artists

by Jorge Jones, Photographer

When it comes to Comic Con International: San Diego, we know it’s still all about the Art and Artists. Creators take us to universes of villains vs heroes, mortals vs immortals, and so much more.  All the mixed media in the world of art inspires us each year we attend. I can remember a few times I created my own characters and applied them on to canvas, and sometimes also to costumes, gearing up for the Saturday Comic Con Masquerade…

Yep, I made a costume… “Once!”  I was so motivated to come up with something so bad ass that people would have wanted to stop me to take photos of my awesome creation!  I might have gotten one or two people stop me and ask if I could be kind enough to take a picture of them with somebody with a much better costume!  But the point is that I was inspired to try and create a character impressive enough to maybe one day be the next Marvel hero, or DC, or Image…  and if they didn’t like my work… I would start my own comic book company!  That never happened, but the idea was great at the time… good thing I stuck to my day job.

So for now, I continue to attend the show and take photos of art. Be they sculptures or paintings or basic sketches, I think they are all amazing. Visiting Comic-Con each year makes me appreciate all these artists and their work. Enjoy this gallery of just some of the art and artists we saw last year…
