Super Human Resources Season Two: With Great Power Comes Great Stupidity is super parody at its best. Did you prefer Deadpool over Batman v Superman? Do you enjoy watching Office Space? Do you wonder what the henchmen do when the villain is not around? If your answer to any of these is yes, have your comic book store order Super Human Resources Season Two.
Super Human Resources Season Two continues the story of Tim, a regular guy trying to survive in a large corporation … of the world’s greatest superheroes. Tim is no longer a fledgling temp. He is now capable in his HR position. There is a nutty craziness that feels close enough to the disappointments of the working world to be instantly relatable.
Super Human Resources Season Two captures all the wit of Super Human Resources Season One. The first volume of Super Human Resources was full of great characters like Bog (think Swamp Thing archetype, that I suspect is marijuana in elemental form), Wombat (everything weird about Batman), Were-Guy, Zeus On The Rebound, Zombor, Dark Roger, and Manboto The Inappropriate Android. Those are just my favorites! Super Human Resources is the Astro City of superhero parody, meaning it has a rich supporting cast. The second volume is no different, introducing us to the Peeper (every weird implication of Uatu the Watcher), but delving deeper into a few of the many existing great characters.
Vol 2 of Super Human Resources shows more of the awesome, lovable supporting cast, and takes it to the next level of storytelling. There are more storylines and character to follow, but each are worth following for sheer entertainment.
The art by Justin Bleep has a Phil Foglio vibe. Foglio does wonderful things like the steampunk Girl Genius, but is most loved by my particular tribe of nostalgic geeks for the zany What’s New with Phil and Dixie comic strips in the back of Dragon magazine. Super Human Resources Season Two: With Great Power Comes Great Stupidity captures the same level of satire and energy, and (for that reason alone) is now on my list of much watch artists. My secret wish list now includes a commission by Justin Bleep of the Bog.
Although I highly recommend tracking down the first volume of Super Human Resources, it is not required reading to enjoy the second volume. Super Human Resources is epic, instantly enjoyable, and, most importantly, VERY FUNNY as endorsed by the great Joe Kelly (Amazing Spider-Man, JLA, Action Comics, Deadpool). You deserve a laugh on Comic Book Day, and Super Human Resources Season Two: With Great Power Comes Great Stupidity delivers!
