Mirrors Edge: Exordium pays the rightful respect we would expect to the game that gave it life; one that gave us a new and revolutionary form of game play. The story line nurtures and grows it’s own plot that was only alluded to in the game and creates an immersive world.
This was the first issue of the series I was able to read, and knowing that I had missed out on the previous five issues means I have some catching up to do! This book was that good. The story was told in a way that seamlessly intertwines both story and action. It is page after page of intrigue and mystery in a world ruled by a totalitarian regime.
The comic is reminiscent of the game, delving into this world with little problem. The art conveys the same clean lines, and contrasting strong colors against flat whites, silvers and blacks that we are used to. We are given something old (the familiar look and feel of the Mirrors Edge universe) and something new as we learn more of the environment and it’s inhabitants. We find that while this issue ties up the miniseries, the story is far from over. We can look forward to more exciting action in it’s successor; Mirrors Edge: Catalyst.
The combination of story and art give this story make it worth the purchase, for sure. More than that, I find myself excited to know that I can run to my local comic shop and grab issues 1 through 5! I don’t know about you, but knowing that I could sit down and read an entire story line from beginning to end without having to wait weeks or months in between issues is an added bonus.
