Let me just say I love titles that tell you what the story is about. Sharknado, Snakes On A Plane, and in this case Godzilla In Hell are among the few. There’s not a whole lot to explain… except Godzilla is in hell. If there was any monster more bad-ass to take on Satan’s minions it would be the king of monsters himself, Godzilla. Godzilla is like Dante’s Inferno with all the action and none of the boring chit chatter.
The story begins with Godzilla placed in the bowels of hell. He faces one adversary after another. Of course, Godzilla prevails every time. There is not much dialogue in this miniseries, which is perfect for the mood and Godzilla’s character. Through the beautiful art and storytelling of James Stoko, Bob Eggleton, Buster Moddy Ibrahim Moustafa and Dave Wachter, words are not often necessary.
Godzilla In Hell is the first of its kind, in that it’s the very first Godzilla painted comic book. Artist Bob Eggleton drew inspirations from such greats John Martin, Gustave Dore, and J.M.W. Turner. It’s plain to see that the artists of the book enjoyed making this series as I had reading it. Godzilla is a true passion project.
Of course no graphic novel collection would be complete without the marvelous cover gallery section at the end. Artist’s such Jeff Zornow, Sara Richard, Alberto Ponticelli, Matt Frank, and Ulises Farinas contributed to the variant and alternate covers during the mini series. The best part of any graphic novel collection is having access to all the covers and the story of a collected trade.
If you haven’t checked out Godzilla In Hell, make sure to do that immediately! The artwork is beautiful and it’s not wordy at all, if you’re more into the art of a comic than dialogue. Be sure to pick up your copy of Godzilla In Hell tomorrow from Amazon!
