iZombie is back for more brains with tonight’s Season 2 premiere!

Here is the official press release: ADAM ROSE (“VERONICA MARS”) GUEST STARS — Liv (Rose McIver) consumes the brains of a cantankerous old man to help gain insight into his death. After receiving an anonymous call on the tipster hotline, Liv and Detective Babineax (Malcolm Goodwin) stop by the residence of Byron Thistlewaite (guest star Adam Rose), to question the mysterious caller. Meanwhile, Ravi (Rahul Kohli) suspects that Major (Robert Buckley) might be experiencing a side effect of the cure, and Liv pays Blaine (David Anders) a surprise visit. Michael Fields directed the episode written by Rob Thomas (#201).

I will admit, iZombie was a series that I personally didn’t get into during the 2014-2015 television season. While I had passed on the first season, I am actually glad that I checked out the Season Two premiere. “Grumpy Old Liv” was a pretty good introduction for those of us just joining in, and cleanly established the characters and different take on the zombies.

Rose McIver is incredibly entertaining as Liv, who consumes the brains of crime victims in order to solve their murders. Once eating their brains, she takes on different personality traits of the victim, and this episode definitely provided some great moments for McIver to play with. David Anders (best known for his time on Alias) as Blaine provides a solid foil for Liv, and manages to captivate whenever he is on screen. I also enjoyed the dynamic of the partnership between Liv and Detective Babineax (played by Malcom Goodwin). These two definitely make a different kind of dynamic duo (with a Batman who needs to eat brains to solve the crime).

If you are looking for an entertaining show, I would suggest giving iZombie a second shot. iZombie: The Complete First Season just came out on DVD, so you can easily catch up and enjoy this very different take on zombie and human interaction.

ComicsOnline gives iZombie – “Grumpy Old Liv” 4 out of 5 cravings for brains.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
