Comic Review: Creature Cops #1

If you’re familiar with the concept of a Liger (Tiger and Lion hybrid), then imagine that concept on crack from Comics Experience’s Creature Cops: Special Varmint Unit #1.  Creature Cops is the first of many creator owned titles from Comics Experience Publishing in alliance with IDW.  The wonderful thing about Comics Experience is their publishing program which they give opportunities to new talent.  What sets Comics Experience apart from other publishers is that they let the creators keep the rights to their books.  ComicsOnline is more than happy to be a part of this growing movement!

As a fan of supernatural animal stories, Creature Cops appealed to me. I’m a huge fan of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s WE3 in which pets are fused together with machines.  Creature Cops features animals such as a dog/rhino, gator/snake, dog/panda and many other hybrid animal that resemble mythological griffins.

Fernando Melek’s art is visually appealing and you can actually distinguish the hybrids apart.  Rob Anderson’s storytelling gets right into the meat of the story while still giving character development to its cast of supporting characters.  Overall it’s a well done book that keeps the reader’s attention.

If you are a fan of animals and the supernatural, then I would suggest checking out Creature Cops: Special Variant Unit coming this Wednesday January 28th!  Anderson and Melek know how to tell a story and they are just getting started.  I’m definitely looking forward to checking out future issues.  Be sure to pick a copy up at your local comic store or pre-order from Amazon Kindle!
