Supernatural: Bloodlines Is Officially DOA

spin 2

By Kim Filchak

Sad new for the folks who were looking forward to Supernatural: Bloodlines, the spinoff of CW mainstay Supernatural. This morning the CW announced their retuning shows and it was listed amongst the casualties even though it was not even actually an official show yet outside of the backdoor pilot that aired on April 29th.

Supernatural: Bloodlines, originally called Supernatural: Tribes, was meant to follow the interactions of the various “monster” factions in the city of Chicago as they did their monster things along with the cop who had a rude awakening about the exact nature of his world. A very high profile project, much like FOX’s Gotham, Supernatural: Bloodlines was thought to be a guaranteed pick up but that was before the episode of original flavor Supernatural introducing the characters and their world aired. If you want to know why this most cruelest cut happened the folks over at Entertainment Weekly have a few thoughts on the matter.

“fan reaction to the pilot was largely negative — EW’s own informal poll showed only a third of viewers thought it was worth continuing. Sources say The CW is leaving open the possibility of spinning off Supernatural in another concept down the line.”

So there you have it, Supernatural: Bloodlines is dead.

Maybe this is for the best, a mercy killing if you will. If so many fans of a show with as dedicated (one might even say overly dedicated)  a fan base as Supernatural did not think it was worth watching it was probably not long for this world anyway and it sort of sounded like a lazy mash up of The Originals and Grimm.

The culling did not end there, Bloodlines will have three shows joining it int he great television grave yard; The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed and The Carrie Diaries have all shuffled of their mortal coil as well.

So there you have it, four potential  slots on you DVR freed up to record Law and Order: SVU marathons and reruns of Doctor Who, the circle of life continues.
