“‘Big Hero 6” Trailer Is Freaking Adorable

Big Hero 6, Disney’s first animated feature of a Marvel property, is based on a relatively obscure superhero team who made their first appearance in 1998 in “Sunfire and the Big Hero 6”, before later getting their own limited run mini series. The comic featured a group of teens in Japan with various super abilities that seem to be tailor made to appeal to today’s manga reading, anime watching, kaiju/giant robot obsessed, tween/teen audience. Actual giant fight robot? Check. Purse of holding that can you can pull out anything you may ever need from? Check. Character who can literally turn into a kaiju? Check and double check. The films director Don Hall talked to the L.A. Times and the summed up why turning Big Hero 6 into an animated feature was a natural move for Disney to work their family friendly magic on.

“I was looking for something on the obscure side, something that would mesh well with what we do,” Hall said. “The idea of a kid and a robot story with a strong brother element, it’s very Disney.”

With that in mind here is the first trailer for Big Hero 6 and OMG, it is so freaking adorable you would think Walt Disney himself plucked it from a box of orphaned kittens while Hayao Miyazak watched over them beatifically along with an umbrella holding Totoro and a cloud of soot sprites. This is some serious cute here folks, even animatronic Abe Lincoln himself would not be unmoved by the cuteness of this trailer and he’s a soulless killing machine. So good call on that one Disney.

Big Hero 6 opens November 7th, 2014.
