Geek Gift Guide 2013: Top 5 Gifts for the Convention Go-er

by Kerrie Hui, Reporter

Packing a bag to attend Con’s and Expo’s like San Diego Comic Con and PAX require some finesse. If you pack too much, your back could suffer from hours of waiting in line with a heavy bag; if you pack too little or bring nothing at all, you may curse yourself for not bringing something to hold the goodies you acquire.

Since the holiday season is just around the corner, consider gifting these items to your Con-going-fiend-of-a-friend, or even for yourself!

Peak Design: Capture Camera Clip PRO

Peak 1This one’s a gem for our camera-loving con attendees. Lugging around a DSLR camera can getpeak 2 quite tiresome, especially when you dangle it around your neck and it hits you in the chest with every single step. Capture Clip by Peak Design offers a new and convenient way to carry your camera handsfree. The PRO version also doubles as a quick release plate that can be attached to your tripod for easy switching between taking shots of cosplayers on the Con floor, and those steady shots required when in low-lit panels.

Anker E5 15000mAh Portable Ultra-High Density Capacity External Battery Backup Charger

anker1

Your smartphone is practically your life at a convention. You can game, live tweet, take anker2pictures, Instagram, go online, text, talk…it’s the multitool of all multitools. Unfortunately battery capacity of phones rarely last a day, so being able to charge them on-the-go is a must. The Anker E5 not only has enough juice to charge an iPhone 5 seven times, but can also provide enough power for a full charge on an iPad. It has two USB ports, which means that not only can you charge any device with a USB cable, but you can simultaneously charge TWO devices if you are generous enough to share with your fellow Con-goers.

Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 VC PZD All-In-One Zoom Lens

This is an All-In-One Lens that delivers. Instead of lugging around multiple lenses and switching between them, you can easily zoom in and out with your Sony, Canon or Nikon DSLR. It does relatively well in low-light, and provides excellent sharpness. If you are stuck at the back of a panel room, it also serves well as a pair of binoculars!

Cards Against Humanity

Waiting in line for hours can get quite tiresome and boring. Nothing entertains me more than bringing out Cards Against Humanity and discovering what your friends are really like. The game definitely brings a lot of laughs!
