SDCC 2013: Person of Interest

Person of Interest

by Sean Wells, Guest Reporter

Person of Interest returned for SDCC 2013, and brought along their talented cast and crew to join in for the event. Check out this special video that was shown during the panel, and read some of our highlights below:

  • Season 3 premiering on September 24th; Tuesdays at 10pm.
  • Why create this show? Jonathan Nolan says, “I was interested in surveillance. What happens with all that information? What if you had access to that information and you were in a position to do something with it?”
  • The upcoming season integrates the recently leaked NSA surveillance program, PRISM.
  • A technical consultant is used for information on the show, but a lot of information is simply collected from news sources.
  • Michael Emerson gets to go out and about again.
  • “The writing team knows the pace in which to dull out the goods [information].” – Michael Emerson
  • Amy Acker (Root) and Sarah Shahi (Samantha Shaw) were recurring characters for the first two seasons, but will be regular (main) characters for season 3.
  • Michael says you can never win your scene because the audience’s eye will always travel to the innocent or craftless child or animal.
  • Early in development, Jonathan Nolan was told by someone smarter than him that he had to hide what this show was really about in order for it to make TV.
  • One of the writers asked Jonathan Nolan what this show is really about. He said, “It’s about AI and the way we’re going to interact with it.  The way in which it will slip into the world unnoticed until it will creep in ways we didn’t anticipate. By the time you realize it’s here, it will already have meshed into it the fabric of our society and what we do. We’ll barely recognize it; we’ll barely understand what’s happened.”
