The Hub has really been going out of the way to gain as much of a geek cred as possible for a cable television with their original shows such as Transformers Prime, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and G.I. Joe: Renegades, as well as the many other animated slices of geekery they have also acquired. Now that they have conquered animated forms of geek, the only place to go next is live action shows! Enter: The Aquabats! A superhero themed ska/pop punk rock group whose stage shows have been known to be wacky and ridiculous but yet totally awesome that has gained many fans since forming back in 1994 to battle evil together! These two forces have joined up to bring us one of the most amazingly cheese filled yet kickass tributes to old school superhero comics and TV shows with The Aquabats! Super Show!
In the premiere episode “ManAnt!”, M.C. Bat Commander, Crash McLarson, Ricky Fitness, Eaglebones Falconhawk, and Jimmy the Robot jump into the fray against a half-ant, half-human evildoer with no explanation or apologies whatsoever! Viewers are just thrown right into the action beside them. Don’t expect any layered plots or complex characters here folks. This is good ol fashion cheesy 60’s style Batman craziness and it works. The episode is separated into short segments and loves to change it up constantly so don’t be surprised when the show randomly turns into an animated short of the Aquabats doing various things and it helps from keeping the show from getting stale. The show also features several of the Aquabats songs sprinkled throughout the episode which are almost always catchy and one will be stuck in your head days after watching the episode.
It helps that the show is being produced by the same team who produced Yo Gabba Gabba (and that M.C. Bat Commander was also involved in that show as well) who are no strangers to wacky surreal antics. Old and new Aquabats fans alike will find something to enjoy here so if you are in the mood for some golden age superhero action then look no further than The Aquabats! Super Show! on The Hub!
