SDCC2011: Supernatural – Panel Coverage

by Caroline Clowney, Reporter

Today Supernatural hit up Hall H at Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming Season 7 bringing in actors Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Mark Shepherd along with writer Ben Edlund and showrunner Sera Gamble. Check out the highlights:

  • Jensen Ackles told fans to shutup, rather funny actually
  • Jared Padalecki: “It smells like Robert Pattinson up here”
  • Jensen Ackles is directing first episode of season
  • Misha Collins: “As an actor I’ve been surprised no one has written a god role for me yet.” Finds being a god to be daunting, “how do you play god?”
  • Sera Gamble : Misha will be in first couple of episodes but can’t say whether or not he’ll be in more
  • Mark Shepherd: “I’m in season 7?” Wants spin-off called “O, Crowley”
  • Ben Edlund: “the breaking of the 4th wall was a pretty profound one.” Ghostfacers, The French Mistake are meta, doesn’t know how to top that
  • Jared: we will discover more about the “missing year”, there’s a lot he can see now that the wall has fallen, will play a lot with sam’s healing this season, sam is “way out of his league”, show will be scary this season “Misha shirtless scares the winchester boys (Misha: I think you’re confusing fear with jealousy)”
  • Jensen: Goodbye to Lisa was a necessity, it’s never going to be his life, he is a hunter and will always be a hunter, says it was a tough scene to shoot
  • Sera: No plans to have Chuck appear in early part of season, cas was looking for god but he never showed up so it becomes a question of now that you’re good what are you going to do
  • Misha: Says he’s a method actor when it comes to playing a god (been brushing up on his smiting)
  • Sera: “it’s a polite thing to call actors when they get pages saying they died”
  • Jared: “Do you know how many times Jensen has cried in my arms? You’re not going to die Jensen, you’re not going to die.”
  • Jared: Says it was a challenge to act with souless sam since he couldn’t play Dean with Sam like he was used to “we have no problem fighting with each other.”
  • Jared: Enjoys bickering scenes with Jensen since he thinks they help him pull out his character more
  • Sera Gamble : Jo is coming back, Death will come back, a few more characters as well.
  • Jensen: Over the years Dean has evolved into a specific charachter that I am not, vintage cars + music have evolved into the extent of similarities between him and character
  • Misha: “since I’m a satanist that does affect how I play the character”, smiting might be taking place in first episode
  • Jensen: “I was surprised and proud that Kripke stuck to his plan and wrote those 5 years and that he didn’t stretch them to however long we’re going to go. I think the stories are kinda endless”
  • Ladies definitely love Jensen more than Jared
  • Don’t seem to have forseeable end date for the series, Sera Gamble says there is a lot of fresh blood and that there is plans for this both being and not being the last season
