Futurama returns to Comic-Con this year with a panel full of laughs including Billy West (Philip J. Fry, Professor Zoidberg and more), Katey Segal (Leela), John Di Maggio (Bender), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), Maurice LaMarche (Calculon), Creator Matt Groening and Executive Producer David Cohen.
The panel started off with a sneak preview of this season’s finale called “Reincarnation”. While we only saw one third of this finale based on a like anime animation, the others will also be in different formats including 80’s videogames.
Some highlights from the panel include:
- Comedy Central just signed a deal to have 2 more seasons of Futurama
- A new App available for the IPad and IPhone that allows you to create your own heads in a jar. This will be completely free and available now!
- Matt Groening and one of the Senior Animators of the show had a sketch off to determine who could draw Bender the best in a short period of time.
- Matt Groening decided to just draw as many Benders as he could within that period of time instead and signed each one. Including a half Bart Simpson.
- These were given away to audience members that dressed in Futurama costumes.
- Some highlights of everyone’s characters in the year 3012 include:
- Planet Express will get a new soda machine that Bender will impregnate!
- Hermes will realize that he is less efficient than a machine and will remove certain limbs to turn himself into a cyborg
- Calculon will compete in an acting competition to the death
- Zapp Brannigan will lose interest in Leela when he has an affair with her mother!
- We learn that the Professor is not as old as we think as his parents turn up living on the nearby Death Star.
