A few impressions from SDCC 2011

It has come and gone so fast – San Diego Comic Con 2011 –  and once again it was a blast!

Without further ado, here are some of my personal favorite moments:

Wednesday (Preview night) I had to geek out on anything Battlestar Galactica, of course..

Nice little ‘Viper’ model!

Thursday I attended the only panel that had anything to do with Battlestar Galactica, “So Say we all”, hosted by Richard Hatch. It also had Michael Taylor and Dr Kevin Grazier (BG science consultant) in attendance. A surprise guest was actress Lili Bordan from the upcoming ‘Blood and Chrome’ pilot.

Then:

Todd McFarlane, Stan Lee and Yoshiki unveil their latest project ‘Blood Red Dragon’.

The line for Indigo Ballroom was gone by the time I got there and I managed to find a great seat. (I know, right? Crazy – no big lines yet!!!) The banter between Stan Lee and Todd was hilarious and the crowd loved every minute of it. I wound up getting a cool preview issue #0 at the end of the panel. When you open the cover page, it contains a little music chip that actually plays a little of Yoshiki’s tunes. Awesome!

I stayed in my chair because of the next (short) panel introducing a new sci-fi webseries called “H+‘, produced by Bryan Singer, who did a video-taped introduction. The series looks really promising and I was impressed with the production quality. Check out their trailer. Got a feeling, it’s one to watch out for…

Unfortunately I didn’t make it into the ‘Game of Thrones‘ panel, BUT I did catch the cast signing autographs. I bet if Lena Headey had walked around on her own, nobody would have recognized her!

Would you have recognized her?

Another tv-series morsel to keep an eye out for is the sci-fi drama about the mind, ‘Awake‘. After the main character, played by Jason Isaacs, survives a devastating car accident, he is presented with a bit of a challenge: His mind divides his realities between one reality, in which his wife survived, but his son died; and in the other reality, his son is alive, but his wife never made it. Which reality is real or just a dream? The screening was wickedly intriguing and I wonder how long this series can keep up what it started..Creative and unique stuff, for sure!

Exec. producers Howard Gordon and Kyle Killen, with actor Jason Isaacs in the middle.

Friday I got up at 5am to get to the convenction center in time for the huge line for Ballroom 20. After waiting for about 3 hours, I made it in! First up: “Torchwood“, which was really fun and had a great vibe. I won’t bother getting into specifics, since you can find out plenty of info on this and the other panels that followed (“The Walking Dead”, “Big Bang Theory”, “Eureka”, “Warehouse 13” and “True Blood”) all over the internet, including here on comicsonline.

I have to say, though, the trailer for ‘The Walking Dead” was such a big hit, that they played it again at the end of the panel. I think what really nailed it, was the pulsating, menacing soundtrack that accompanied it. See and hear it for yourself here. I wish my computer speakers could replicate the kickass sound system of Ballroom 20!           Season 2 premieres October 16th, not on Halloween like everybody expected.

I can’t wait!

Well…that’s it for today – hope you enjoyed my little offering; and I hope to see you at Comic Con 2012!

Oh, and before I go, here’s one last impression that sums up what everybody at Comic Con experiences; it doesn’t matter if you’re just a geek or a celebrity: MOBS of PEOPLE are everywhere! In this case, actor Alexander Skarsgard displays an impressive amount of grace and patience while signing autographs for fans after the ‘True Blood‘ panel.
