CC2010: My Preview Night

ComicCon has offically started! Preview Night started out crazy and hectic as usual with people running around trying to register and avoid very long lines and security guards yelling in different directions telling everyone where to go. People were everywhere at once trying to get their badges, and until the Dealer Floor opened at six, it looked like Under the Sails was going to be the most crowded place. Once you got registered you got a big ComicCon bag with a tv show on it. We looked and fought for a Chuck bag and didn’t stop until we got one.

CC2010: The Insanity Begins!

Commence insanity in 5, 4, 3, 2… and this was just Preview Night!

Picking up our Press badges went a lot smoother than I expected, leaving us three hours to “rest” before the dealer floor opened up.  Actually, it seemed to me that badge pickup of any type seemed to be going smoother than I’ve seen it go in years.  I didn’t see any lines wrapped around the block, some were barely out the door, so either everyone is waiting until tomorrow to pick up their badges, or the Con has streamlined the badge process considerably.

The masses were finally let into the main hall at 6:00, and by masses I mean the smallest crowd we’re likely to see on the dealer floor from here on out.  If I had to guess I’d say 40-50 thousand or so people.  Believe me, that’s still a lot, but nothing compared to what the floor will be like by noon Friday!

CC2010: My first impressions.

In quite a few ways, Comic-Con is getting too big for its venue.  But in others, it’s exactly the same—the stink of sweat as the dude with the man-boobs in front of you waits for his turn to by the same exclusive you want, the way your senses overload as that  overbearing perfume wafts from the twentieth slave Leia that passes by.

But with preview night as exclusive as ever (not everyone who had a four day pass could get in), if not more, the chaos was much the same.  No clear lines of demarcation between anything other than what kind of pass you needed to register for, the anarchy in the vendor room.  The parking was horrific, as always.

CC2010: The calm before the storm

The streets and areas around the convention center were peaceful this morning. In a only a few hours, the streets will be buzzing with activity as attendees begin queuing in line to pick up their passes and prepare for Preview night.

PC Game Review: Sam and Max, Episode Four: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls

I remember when I was a toaster…

That crazy anthropomorphic duo is at it again with episode four of the Sam and Max series, Beyond the Alley of the Dolls!  So far, they’ve dealt with nutty alien ape generals and narcissistic boy pharaohs – what’s next for the snarky crime-solvers?

DVD Review: 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams Unrated

1864, April 22. I remember that day like it was yesterday. A renegade troop of northern soldiers fighting the so called “Civil War” raped our women, murdered our children, even took out my God damn eye. I can still hear granny’s cries as they burned Pleasant Valley to the ground. They killed us all, doomed us to a life in limbo. Nothing more than ghosts seeking revenge. Guess that’s the way the good Lord wants it; eye for eye, tooth for tooth, as the Old Testament says. One thing’s for certain, our souls ain’t ever gonna find rest 'til all 2001 are avenged.

DC Universe Interview: “Hung” star Thomas Jane finally gets his man in “Jonah Hex” animated short

HUNGSTAR THOMAS JANE
FINALLY GETS HIS MAN AS JONAH HEX
IN ALL-NEW DC SHOWCASE ORIGINAL SHORT

If at first you don’t succeed, take the animated role.

Therein lies the lesson of Thomas Jane’s quest to play the role of comic book anti-hero Jonah Hex. The star of HBO’s popular series Hung once lobbied to play the theatrical role of Jonah Hex and, though he fell short in that attempt, Jane has found another path to the character as the disfigured cowboy’s voice in the DC Showcase Original Short, Jonah Hex.
